The Dayton Audio DTA-100 through its hp out sounds slightly muffled and not as extended on the highs. It also runs out of power.

But through its speaker out through the 6, its more open and extended on the highs.

From what I gathered, the only difference between the 100 and 100a is on the hp out. No idea what it is though. But through its speaker out on the 6 it sounds pretty good. I've seen the 100 on ebay for much less than $100.

Curious why anyone would spend 1200 on a flagship headphone and use a 100.00 T amp. Makes little sense IMO

I don't understand the logic either of buying a $1.2k hp and spend $3k for an amp for it.

Perhaps if it is priced much higher it becomes more acceptable? This thing sounds good and that is what is important to me.
I would seriously doubt that an amp costing 10 or even 20 times its price would sound much much better.
I'm willing to let people hear this in the upcoming S.Flo meet.

Oh yeah, I forgot that how good an amp sounds is reliant on the cost of the amp.

I've been using a Virtue TWO.2 (T amp) and a Lyr with the HE-6 since I got them.  Each was $450, less than half the price of the headphones.  Guess I don't make sense either.  Nor do any of the people that use cheap vintage speaker amps.

My FOTM HE6 set up.

iTunes on Windows 7.

Matrix Mini-i as DAC only.

No name brand supposedly famous "Matisse" circuit tube buffer/pre Chinese copy.   What ever it is it has good synergy with this current set up so I like it.

Onkyo Integra  M-504 stereo power amp.

Then of course to the adapter box then the 6.  For me this is not just the FOTM but the set up that suits me best out of all other amps I have tried.

P.S.  Forgot to add that all my current cables are generic or dollar store Philips, RCA and Monster brand cables.

I enjoy it, so I post it:

- Hegel HD10 DAC -> Abrahamsen V2.0 amp -> HE-adapter -> you know what
