is it only 3000 units worldwide?

man I'm dying to see some THD measurements, because the only thing holding me back is whether or not the midrange distortion and tonality was dealt with. An improvement in bass presence and tightness, as they allude on the updated page, is icing on the cake.

In fact, if this limited pair fixed just those two things (distortion and slightly less than neutral bass), it could rival the HE400/500 easily.
I'd pick one up for ~$500, no problem!

Who told you about midrange distortion?

Myself. There's bass distortion too. (high frequencies are clearer than HD650, though)

Granted, it may lessen over time ("burn-in" or material loosening), but I didn't have access to a well-used pair.
Regardless, I'm hoping that the hand-picked nature and re-tuning of the driver eliminates this.

Where did you connect the headphones?

Hmm. I don't recall ever experiencing mid-range distortion myself. When I had the Q701, it was great, but it sounded thinner to me than the other phones I had. This was remedied with some bass boost. With the K702 Anniversary, I have no need to boost. The bass is full and wonderfully textured. I'm still on the fence on whether the HD650 has more or less bass, but it's close. The k702.65 definitely has more bass than the Q701 out of the box. The k702.65 still has its high range and the mids/bass feel more energetic yet smooth. It's closer to an all-genre phone, however, the soundstage seems to be compromised a bit and the overall signature is warmer IMO as a result of the increased bass response. Just for reference, I consider the HD650 warm, but far from dark. I also have the Grados to compare.

That's a great price.

The production numbers are from my source at AKG. I didn't make it up.

The K702 is limited to 3,000 pcs.
The C451 is limited to 1,000 pcs.

Aren't the distortion figures on the Q701 really good? I definitely don't hear any bass or mid-range distortion, or high frequency distortion either for that matter.

Price is already back at 499, either the 4 sold out or it was changed

I just feel bad paying $500 considering I paid my Q701's $240+tax (Sold for $210), and right now you can get the K702 + K601 and swap the headbands + have an extra pair for less then the k702 Anniversary's
