Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

The LRSs would not be well matched with Aegir…too low efficiency. My experience running ls50 with Aegir was that simpler music like a jazz quartet or classical chamber music could sound excellent, anything larger scale would tax the Aegir (probably not enough head room) and sound bad. For...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I have used both Ubuntu and Pop!OS with my Schiit stuff with no problems. I like Lollypop player for a local player, but have Roon on my listening room computer and use an iPad as the front end.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I mostly listen via speaker. My main living room system has mostly Schiit all around (California Audio Labs ICON CD player, Sol, Roon, Yggdrasil, Freya+, Aegir) with Tekton Designs Electron SE speakers. In my office I have Ragnarok 2 (internal multibit dac) with KEF LS50 (and no subwoofer)...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I would keep the Freya S around, and get an Aegir for those Zu speakers. Jason must have spilled a large amount of magic design dust onto the Aegir while he designed it...while the Ragnarok 2 is good, it is not magical (I own both Aegir and Ragnarok 2), and from what I have read, the Vidar is...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Neither...I would go for Bifrost + Asgard for $898. I am not that fond of the multibit card (I own Asgard with card). I have heard neither Magnius nor Bifrost, but think Asgard is phenomenal. I am not fond of the mutibit card, but own Yggdrasil, which is fantastic and would hope that Bifrost...

Thanks, I might try that...haven't used wine in about 10 years, so forgot about it.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I purged my cell phones after writing phone apps for a couple of years. I cannot foresee a time when I would get another. When I travel I buy a burner phone, but don't access any of my accounts (would start new accounts linked to the phone and discard after wiping the contents). Any access of my...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Roon looks interesting, but they don't offer a UI that runs on any of my computers. I could run the server module, but that's about it. (I don't own a cell phone or tablet or windows or macintosh)

    Schiit Two Channel Clubhouse

I spent the 1990s chasing passive preamp perfection, but only came to the conclusion that passive seems 'flat' sounding and active (tubes or ss) give more dimensionality to the music. I listen about 50/50 ss/tubes on my Freya+.

Just hook it up if your speakers are sensitive enough...the Ragnarok 2 makes a very good preamp, and the Aegir is a more refined power amp than the Rag2.

Wow! They were back-ordered for a long time before this. I was looking for one in June, and they were back-ordered until July 7. I placed my order on July 6, and they extended the back-order until August 7. Fortunately, mine arrived August 9 and they are already on back-order again!

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

We must have very similar tastes as I'm moving the Ragnarok 2 into my office to run...LS50s! I've been waiting a long time for the Freya+ to come back in stock; it's been pushed out 2 or three times so far. I also have a Mani on order as I'm currently running the Sol through the phono card in...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I have had Ragnarok 2 since August 2019 and bought an Aegir a couple of months ago. I didn't have a pre-amp to use with it, so used Rag 2 as pre. As soon as Aegir was in place, sound stage became much more 3d and micro dynamics and timbre were much improved. Aegir takes the sound to another...

That's the one I want to audition in my system; I'm just afraid I will buy it if I do! My speakers are 98.8db/2.83W and 4 ohm, so the single Aegir has plenty of power. I'm waiting on a Freya+, then I will continue to listen for a few months before I check out the XA-25.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

No, I will move the Ragnarok2 to my office and use the Freya+ with a single Aegir. I am currently using the Ragnarok2 as a pre-amp for the Aegir. The Aegir brings out more refinement from the music than the Ragnarok2 if your speakers can be driven sufficiently by its meager power output. I...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I don't have a Freya+ (probably will order one when they come is stock), but my Ragnarok2 is in a rack with just about exactly that space and it is fine. It gets warm, but not hot in any way. I have about 2.5cm clearance (45.7cm wide shelf) on each side as well (that's where the heat sinks are).

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Several reasons: 1. Size. I can easily move the Electron SEs around in the room by myself. I will also be retiring in a few years and don't want to deal with speakers I will need help moving. 2. I wanted the upgraded internal wiring, and these came with it (DI is $300 extra). 3. I wanted gloss...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

That's nice to know...I just received my Electron SEs yesterday and currently running them with a single Aegir that is destined for my office system. The Aegir is very special at its price point, and it will be difficult for me to go back to the Ragnarok 2 when I move the Aegir to the office. I...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

They are not a rebranded HD650...they were a custom model prepared for Drop and have a lower impedance. I think the HD6xx are closer to HD600 than HD650 (I have both 6xx and 650). They are easier than the HD650 to drive well. I personally prefer the HD650, but the HD6xx are quite good...

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

After nearly a month, the Yggdrasil continues to impress...I listened to Chicago: If You Leave Me Now, and it has always been an album that I thought was not so good (sounded flat and digital), but for the first time, it sounded fantastic. It was full and 3d and layered and sweet, without the...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I've had an Yggdrasil for several weeks now, and it was a major upgrade (had the multibit card in Ragnarok 2). It really is musical and closer to analog than I have ever heard. I also have the Sol and it is very good. If I were you I would get the Yggdrasil, keep your cd collection (just keep...

    Schiit Audio Sol Turntable Thread

I received my Sol last week, but finally was able to set it up Sunday. I only had to change 2 settings: I moved the motor pulley up about the thickness of a piece of paper (slight rubbing on motor housing), and raised the tone arm lift. Everything else seemed correct. I was surprised how nice...
