Schiit Vali 3 : Impressions Thread
If you're looking to buy a tube, a warning. Several of the tubes that others are showing in this thread are obvious fakes. 60 year old tubes do not have freshly stenciled labels. Read up on ebay scams and you will understand why known scammers have 100% ratings. If you've already bought a tube...- evanescent

Schiit Vali 3 : Impressions Thread
They tend to be good but are massively overhyped, especially here on head-fi. My 396a is as good as they get, from a comparison with other 396a's. I never listen to my 396a because it doesn't compete with a specific 6n3p-e, a specific Mullard 6922 etc. After 60+ years individual tubes have...- evanescent

Schiit Mjolnir 3 - Impressions Thread
Cost, design and performance matter for the price of the manufacturer. A bit part of the Schiit proposition is that they sell direct - for a consumer you buy at their manufacturer price + shipping. There would be a small increment for their return policy and support as well. But for most of...- evanescent

Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions
6n3p and variants were made for decades from 1960s to 1990s, so people production and standards must have changed tremendously Whatever the cause, there's a huge variation in how they sound in a MJ2. My absolute favourite MJ2 tubes, above pricey Telefunken, Phillips etc are a pair of very old...- evanescent

SONY NW-ZX2
Are you using the upnplay app as renderer on the ZX2? It has an option to use an external app as player. I have used that to open and play on Sony's proprietary music app (but only local content so far). You might be able to use it to play your streamed content on Sony's music app.- evanescent

Oh WOW.. This is so amazing! thanks for getting the word out. I'm now streaming Tidal to the ZX2, and since it goes via UPNP Player it is also getting the Parametric EQ and other DSP. That's what I was really missing from a desktop setup - and it sounds so much better than an entry level...- evanescent

Maybe they drive some headphones equally well, but they're not in the same conversation if you look at their specs. MJ3: 2W into 32 ohms Bliss: 12W into 32 ohms That's quite a difference.- evanescent

That's not really the concern. It's more that we were promised one thing and will be getting something different. Also that we don't know what we're getting because the class specs aren't published. We don't even know if the currently published 2W is for single ended (my assumption) or for...- evanescent

That's not what he confirmed, although he does back away from the 8W claim for push-pull. We don't know what the push-pull specs are except that they are higher "for higher power, you can switch to push-pull Class A" says the FAQ. The FAQ also links to the Head-Fi post with the 8W claim. Like...- evanescent

Many Schiit amps implement low-gain by adding global feedback. For example, MJ2 has zero feedback in high gain, and feedback in low gain. MJ3 is different with seperate gain and feedback switches.- evanescent

Do you find your monitor is too hot? MJ3 at 50W generates about as much heat as a monitor or laptop. The heat is concentrated at the heatsinks. I've checked with Schiit on other gear, and they've always said it was fine to switch at the outlet instead of the inbuilt switch.- evanescent

I still use it with Tidal. BubbleUPNP streams tidal from my phone, and upnplay runs on the ZX2 to receive it. Easy. You could subsititute BubbleUPNP with any other Tidal UPNP streamer on iOS, PC etc.- evanescent

Can we chill the hype about the heat from MJ3? 50W is nothing special, and not a reason to shy away from this amp. Streaming works fine with Spotify, including downloaded content. The interface is slow, but it works great if you control it via a desktop or phone Spotify app. If encountering problems, make sure settings / wifi / advanced / "wi-fi optimization" is off. I sometimes stream Tidal to the ZX2...- evanescent
