Ferrum OOR - headphone amplifier with a soul ?

I am planning to keep Susvara for lighter tracks like jazz and classical, then acquiring something with more slam thereafter :) Very much agreed. A very troublesome process that saw me upgrade my amp and cable and interconnects and even consider dabbling in EQ to fix it. Will explore Yggdrasil...

Ferrum OOR - headphone amplifier with a soul ?

I apologize but I should have explained that I do not know how to respond your advice regarding EQ, as I am not a big fan of EQ and would rather use system synergy or swap headphone outright than alter the default tuning of a pair of cans. I am getting 4V through my Bifrost 2's balanced XLR...

Ferrum OOR - headphone amplifier with a soul ?

So do you keep it just for certain genres and switch to Audeze / Focal / Abyss when anything with bass is being played? I have found Susvara's tuning is great for instrumental / classical / jazz, but makes almost everything else flat, soft, emotionless, and un-engaging. Agreed, it's not...

Ferrum OOR - headphone amplifier with a soul ?

I see that you own the Susvara and a myriad of Audezes, the lack of bass on the Susvaras must be that much more prominent when compared to something like LCD4.

Ferrum OOR - headphone amplifier with a soul ?

Some other questions for Ferrum owners here: 1) Do you guys ever adjust the voltage of a device, such as using 30V for the OOR instead of 24V? I have tried increasing the voltage but of course everything sounded exactly the same. It didn't make the Susvara sound any less soft. I think even if...

Ferrum OOR - headphone amplifier with a soul ?

I wanted to 'fix' the bass so I changed to the Black Dragon first, there was a slight hint of warmth and didn't really give it a whole lot of bass. Thus I tried the Silver Dragon next, it made everything sound more open and transparent, I thought it was a bit better than the Black Dragon, so I'm...

The long and winding road... to endgame: MSB Premier, Riviera AIC10, HF Susvara.

Are you having to crank the volume knob to 3'o clock to get sufficient volume or else everything sounds so laid-back, backward, hard-to-hear, un-engaging and lifeless?

Output Power Balanced: 1.600 mW into 300 Ω, 8 W into 60 Ω Susvara has 60 Ω, I am running everything balanced, so I think I'm putting 8W into it and thus not limiting it in terms of current. I highly suspect it's just the tuning of the headphones.

Ferrum OOR - headphone amplifier with a soul ?

Because there's no dealer for Abyss in my area so it'll be a potential sight-unseen sound-unheard $5995 mistake. I'd rather get the Meze Elite to get some bass, much cheaper, comfortable and I've demoed it 3 times now with positive feedback. The thing is aside from spending another obscene...

Ferrum OOR - headphone amplifier with a soul ?

Ok thanks, that means it's the headphones themselves that's the issue, I can rest in this journey to 'fix' the Susvara finally. It'll never be what I expected it to be even if my chain is correct. Cool ... Ok, I'll give it a couple of months time and then sell it for bass heavy headphones and...

Having only invested in this combo for barely a week, I do want to make sure I'm doing everything correctly before ruling out technical mistakes and concluding it's the headphones that I don't like, and the rest of the chain is not to blame. The Susvara does sound good with jazz and classical...

Ferrum OOR - headphone amplifier with a soul ?

So basically on a technical level, I am driving the Susvara sufficiently already, it's just how it's tuned that is resulting in not much bass? Do you only listen to bass-light genres with the Susvara then complement them with another bassier headphone then? There's no way to achieve bass or...

Perhaps I should be more clear, if you look at the left side of the HYPSOS display, both the 'Nominal Output and 'Output Voltage' has been set to 24.0V (I set the HYPSOS configuration to Ferrum OOR). What I was referring to was that the 'Output Power' was 15.1W and the 'Output Current' was 0.6A...

Ferrum OOR - headphone amplifier with a soul ?

Got the Ferrum OOR + HYPSOS stack and the chain is Macbook Pro > AudioQuest Cinnamon USB Cable > Bifrost 2 Unison USB > XLR Interconnect > Ferrum OOR (powered by HYPSOS) > XLR out to Susvara Although the sound is very transparent and clean, bass is still not that strong, and even on high gain...

So you were impressed by the Susvara but ultimately sold it still, was it because you got the Shangri-La Sr in place of it? Yes, I have spent almost a week with it, and everything is just too laid-back, vocals are too far away to feel emotional, there are many details but they're too subtle to...

No, I currently only have Bifrost 2 / Jotenheim 2 stack. I will demo and hopefully purchase OOR stack next week only. I have no clue about whether burn-in for Susvara is real or not, and if so, how many hours it would take and how much improvement there really is. The sound currently is brittle...

My Silver Dragon cables for Susvara just shipped and I hope it would bring improvement like you said. I have also been 'burning-in' my Susvara by continuously playing tracks since I got it 6 days ago, I can't say that I have heard a massive difference so far. Of course I wouldn't know how many...

So if all my cables are now terminated in balanced 4-pin XLR, do I need to switch to single-ended 6.3mm cables or just use an adapter? I don't want to get single-ended terminated cables just so I can try / use Enleum ... That's surprisingly disappointing to hear that the Enleum is not...

Oh okay so it really doesn't have a balanced topology or balanced output, what is the other output underneath the 6.3mm output, is it 4.4mm? I see that choosing the gain (V1 vs V2) is also not that straight forward, there is not switch on the front panel and you need to hold down buttons on the...

I hope my Moon Audio Silver Dragon will have some of the effect that your Lavricables did and that it's not too bright a sound. I'm sensitive to treble. I've also ordered the Black Dragon in tandem in case the silver is gets too bright for my taste. Have you considered upgrading to the...

Out of curiosity, did you buy all the gear (Susvara, LCD-5, Holo Spring, OOR, Enleum) before demoing and then decided to sell the rest and end up with only one chain? That's quite the conviction man  Yes since in your original post you said Oor was very close to the Enleum for...

Thanks, I will demo the Oor/Hypsos with my Susvara next week and report back :beerchug: Where I am I have no access to any Volot or Enleum, meaning the Volot has to be bought blind and it is currently backordered with no word on when it might become available again. Thanks, I see that you have Ferrum Oor + Hypsos as well as Susvara. I will run balanced XLR from Bifrost 2 into OOR and use the XLR output for my Susvara. I have a Moon Audio Silver Dragon Cable incoming as well. Have you tried a copper cable for the Susvara, does a silver cable result in...
