Thank you Markl and...
Thank you all (and especially Markl) that contibuted to our letter to Stereophile Mag (May '03). Well said. Very good points were made regarding our relatively young audience who are encouraged to experience superior quality audio through good sources with reasonably priced cans. But 'Hey', our...- Bongo

Owner's opinion? W1000, CD3000, dt770 comfort
hi " Dude", Absolutely no (non-musical) vibrations coming through the headset. You may know, there's a mesh covering the transducers Although, my ears are touching the mesh, I really can just barely feel this ... to me this is not a factor. The transducers are about 2-3 mm behind this mesh ...- Bongo

Goodbye HD600's
Interesting thread. For the most part I want to listen to a recording "row 7 center". But at times I want to be that "Fly on the wall"... not literally on"the wall" but weaving in and out of the orchestra... Yes, listening to the bow w/rosen. Yes, hearing the snort and cough. That's what (I...- Bongo

Owner's opinion? W1000, CD3000, dt770 comfort
Hey "the dude" for what it's worth... I found my post of feb 2... ... Hadron measured 54 mm width of the inside of the w1000's circular ear cup. I measure 56 mm on mine (no big diff). the nominal depth of the cup is 10 mm. The cushion is 24 mm wide so there's pretty good distribution of...- Bongo

Owner's opinion? W1000, CD3000, dt770 comfort
hey "The Dude"... I had contributed my (rather large) ear measurements in the thread you mentioned. The W1000's interior opening is probably going to be smaller that the average (read: probably your) ears. But interestingly, the design of the pad is such that it ALMOST feels circumaural. I find...- Bongo

AudioCubes - from order to delivery (to USA) - how long?
I give Audio Cubes four stars. My order (for my W1000s) took about 2 1/2 weeks but that's only because I changed my mind three days into the process from A1000s to the Ws. Mr Kohn was on top of my order at all times. Even with his diligence, and everything else going smoothly, I'd figure on...- Bongo

Norah Jones - distortion on track 1?
Thanks for the input, Orpheus. ...I'll keep trying . Hey! That's the challenge! Bob P.S. Like most of us... I have taken care of my ears... I hope it's not MY equipment -
Norah Jones - distortion on track 1?
I have gone over and over ... and over... the "Don't Know Why" segment 1:10 through 1:20 with my system (Denon DCM-350 + W1000's) and I can't for the life of me (to coin a phrase) find the (now infamous) clipping. Is it truly because (1) I don't have a good enough system, (2) my old ears are not... -
Norah killed em at the grammy's huh.
I really like Norah Jones' music. I believe her when she said last night that she was surprised her music would be considered "pop" (especially these days)... interesting what marketing/promoting can do. She was noticably nervous during her performance though ... I didn't mind it a bit ... maybe... -
Holyshitbass!
Sibilancy, or I should say lack of it, is very improtant in my evaluation of a set of headphones (or speakers). Maybe someone can help me... to what extent (relatively) is the biggest contributing factor in this regard? source, amp or cans? I'm glad that you are enjoying (music through) your...- Bongo

Comparing headphone to loud speakers
Good question. A bit of an apple to artichokes comparison though. Dollar to dollar, a decent headphone/amp combo will best a speaker/amp combo hands down for detail, presence, and isolation (certainly), but a speaker system is much more realistic with regard to soundstage. Unfortunately (for...- Bongo

What ever happened to the ATH-A1000 & W1000???
Nadim said...Hmmm...reading through the different posts, it sounds like comfort (not surprisingly) is very personal, based on how the cans fit one's own ears. Can anyone with the W1000 measure the inside of the cups, say X and Y at widest point, so I can compare it to my current <name stricken...- Bongo

Impedence match
Please help clarify impedence match for me. Which amps are best for low impedence cans? Which are best for high impedence ones? Are there amps that are great for BOTH high and low? Are tube amps better or worse than SS for low or high impedence cans? What excatly determines an amp's ability to...- Bongo

Love him or hate him. Just finished a sesson with his "It had to be you..." it's very nice. The W1000's really bring out the detail and presence. -
Sony CD3k and AT W1000
Lou...Thanks for the welcome. JahJahBinks... Yes, I have been enjoying the W1000 all evening w/o an amp. They really so sound quite nice. Its apparent (from Lou's experience and others) that a good amp will only make things better. I must admit, I haven't been listening through decent cans...- Bongo

Sony CD3k and AT W1000
Sorry...I have no experience with the CD3000s... But I have to say how happy I am with my W1000's that just arrived in their white plasticized-paper bag a few hours ago. I'm not surprized at all about the dramatic impovement they are over my TD/60's ... but I still am amazed at their clarity...- Bongo

Brief comparison of the ATH A1000, A100Ti and W1000
Thanks Kevin for the informative review. you say... <The only real differences are the materials used and the joints that pivot to accomodate different head sizes. The A1000 are clearly the winner when I comes moving the earcups in a variety of different configurations> and you say that...- Bongo

Acoustic music, especially Christian.
I highly recomend "Alison Krauss + Union Station Live" (from Louisville, KY, 2002, Rounder Recirds Corp.). A bit less refined than their studio performances (as can be expected). But nevertheless a superb live recording that maintains the detailed, precise acoustic sound that I love AK+US for.
