MacBook Pro -> WHAT -> HD595
Wouldn't it be sensible for him to buy an Apogee Duet, since he is a mac user and that little thing seem to be the best job as a Dac plus recording machine? That would make the best of both world for exactly his budget. I sure would do that. In fact that the two things i am about to buy...- luidge

i need an external volume pot
In fact you should do the opposite, leave windows volume maxed and use iTunes to control it. I don't know if you can configure your keyboard to controle other thing than windows volume slider, but if you can just do it. If you have another software for your soundcard you should max iTunes and... -

true adudiophile card?
For me the best sound card are the external soundcard from RME and the like. My friend got a RME Hammerfall and it sound sooooooo good it hurt. But it sure cost way more than Juli@ and the like. I for myself use an EMU 1212m and it sound pretty darn good, especialy for the price i paid for it.- luidge

Lavry DA10
I just sold my DA-10 and by removing it from my stereo chain, i can say, even with my pretty cheap studio monitors, that i will be missing a lot without this DAC. I hope i can get satisfied with my Emu 1212m setup- luidge
