Massdrop x Alex Cavalli Tube Hybrid Amp (CTH) - Dropping Monday

That's very helpful. Thank you very much. I had considered the Focal Clear and Elear, but I got a good deal on the LCD-X and bought them instead. I may decide to sell them and buy the Massdrop Elex, though.

Massdrop x Alex Cavalli Tube Hybrid Amp (CTH) - Dropping Monday

Has anyone used the MCTH with the Beyerdynamic T1 or Audeze LCD-X, or indeed with any Beyer or Audeze headphones? Most of the reviews that I've seen talk about how good it sounds with Sennheisers. I have HD-600s, so it's good to know that the MCTH will work well with them, but I'd like to know...

    Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

I can't claim to be a regular on this thread, but I bought my HD-600 in November 2004. I haven't used them much in the past few years, though. Most of the paint has come off the headband, but the HD-600 still sounds very good.

Head-fier from western NY let me know who you are!!

I live in Rochester. I'd be willing to go to the Buffalo area for a meet, or maybe even host one if I could talk my wife into the idea.

    Need a turntable history lesson

OK, here is a bit of turntable history. Back in the 1970s audiophiles believed that as long as a turntable had low rumble, wow, and flutter, it couldn't have any influence on the sound of a system. Many audiophiles had high-end direct drive turntables like the Panasonic SP-10. (This was before...

Bypassing the internal DAC on an iPod?

I didn't think that it was possible to bypass the internal DAC on an iPod and route the digital signal into an external DAC, but Audio Advisor is now carrying the Monitor Audio i-Deck iPod player, which consists of a "deck" that the iPod mounts into and two speakers. It's not unlike similar (and...

    dac recommendation please

If you want a more detailed explaination of jitter, there's an article by John Atkinson in the December 1990 issue of Stereophile magazine on the subject. It's on-line at: http://www.stereophile.com/reference...ter/index.html

    AKG271s, BeyerDT250/250, DT831 or DT880???

I have a pair of Beyer DT831s that I use at home. I like them, but they seem rather large for portable use. They have quite a bit of detail, but they're somewhat bright and lack deep bass. My Perreaux amp matches well with them, taming the rough edges and bringing out their musicality. They're...

What are you amping the K701 with?

I'm using a Headsave Classic. I tried them with my Perreaux SHX-1 0.5, and it didn't work well at all. It sounded quite bassy and lacked detail. I may be looking for another amp at some point, because it seems like the K701s are more sensitive to differences in amplifiers than my Sennheiser HD600s.

    AKG K701 Review Thread

My K701s came yesterday, and currently have about 15 hours on them. I haven't had much time for listening to them, and of course they're not broken in yet, but here are some brief impressions. When I first listened to them, I was using a Perreaux SHX-1 0.5 that I bought from daveman_84 last...

    Looking for Nashville stores.

I'm not familiar with the stores in Nashville, but I have to believe that there are stores that sell equipment for professional musicians and studios. They will have headphones, although they're going to carry the ones preferred by DJs and sound engineers, not necessarily the ones preferred by...

    AKG K701 Review Thread

Thank you very much for the review. I'd been on the fence, trying to decide whether to order a pair of 701s, but your review pushed me over. I just called Todd and ordered a pair. Today is the last day for his introductory pricing. My wife says I don't need another pair of headphones. What...

    CD for frequence analyzis

Stereophile Magazine has four test CDs with warble tones at various frequencies for measuring the response of a stereo system. Warble tones are tones that vary in frequency around a central tone. If you're using a CD like this to measure the response of speakers, this avoids problems with room...

    Birkett's Headsave Classic thread

I had been considering a Rega Ear, a used Perreaux, or maybe the new Gilmore Lite to drive my Senn HD600s, but this thread and a couple of others from the archives convinced me to try the new Classic. I'm on Norm's list, waiting for the cases to arrive, which he says should be in about a week...

    Yet another hd580 amp question.

A4audio is in Canada, although the prices on their web site are apparently in American dollars. Does anyone know if it will be necessary to pay duty to import a Rega Ear into the US? I looked at the US Customs web site, which is fairly confusing, and it looks like there's no duty on amplifiers...

what do you listen to most?

I listen a lot to the radio at home and in the car, but not to the local Clear Channel stations. We have a good public radio station that plays mostly classical music, plus an independent station and a public station that each play jazz. At work I listen to CDs.
