help me find electrolytic caps in these sizes please?
Hi All, I'm looking for 1000, 2200, 3300 and 4700 uF, 35V electrolytics that will fit where rubycon (not BG) caps now reside. I've found Panasonic NHG's, Silmic II's (although only up to 1000 uF), but no other 'high end' electrolytic caps that aren't massive (i.e. M-lytic caps). I've looked...- omendelovitz

Need help modding my sugden Headmaster
Hi all, I just picked up a headmaster from mulveling and of course I automatically have upgraditis, so I want to mod the amp. It doesn't sound nearly as bad as many have made it out to be (low impedance cans), but I can hear where improvement can be had. Unfortunately, the blog Carlo...- omendelovitz

North Toronto Meet 7/26/08 (56k, no way!)
North Toronto Meet 7/26/08 (56k, no way!) I just wanted to thank everybody for dropping by and making the meet a success. Lots of interesting people and gear. Most notable for me was the Cary, err...Cambridge Audio Azur 840C. Very nice and detailed, unbelievable tone. The Larocco Headcode...- omendelovitz

Stax 3030 system vs. 3050A
Hi Everyone, it seems that the main difference b/w the systems in the title are the 313 amp vs. 323II amp. Can anyone tell me what the difference is in amp sonic performance (if any)?- omendelovitz

can dynamic match electrostatics?
I've recently had some alone time with the baby stax 2050 system and am blown away by how it sounds AND the fact that it is the most basic desktop model they offer. I'm now tempted to look into something like the O2/727amp or the 4070 signature II combo. Problem is, Stax is damn expensive. My...- omendelovitz

help an old timer reconfigure his portable setup
Hey everyone, If you look in my sig, you'll see that I've been around the audio 'bend', having tried many earphones, IEM's, headphones, amps, etc. So recently I sold my triple.fis thinking that my creative EP's and Koss Portapros would suffice in my portable rig. I was wrong. They both...- omendelovitz

Mississauga/North Toronto meet
As a continuation to the GTA part 2 meet thread, I'm starting this thread to organize the whos and wherefores of the next meet. What I'd like from you is: 1)your confirmation that you will attend (assuming no conflicting dates); and 2) your vote for the meet's location. I'm trying to book the...- omendelovitz

resistor height question
For reasons too long to mention, I'm in a situation where the resistor leads are too thick (by only a little bit) for my PCB. The lead tips will fit in, but will not travel through the hole, no matter how much I heat it up. I've no problem with leaving the resitor up in the air (don't want to...- omendelovitz

DT880 mod help
Ok, so I'm trying to mod the brightness out of the DT880's. I've searched the forum, and have only come up with Jazz's resistor/cap mod. Any other suggestions out there? I really appreciate the help. I'm also open to recabling these cans if necessary and if someone can tell me which cable to...- omendelovitz

Digikey, Newark, Mouser and ???
Hi All, I'm just wondering if there are any other warehouse electronics suppliers serving NA other than the 3 mentioned in the title. I'm trying to secure a decent panel mount RCA input and these suppliers aren't helping all that much. They sell the Switchcraft, but only one type/model.- omendelovitz

DT880? 880 pro? recabled? by whom? help!!!
Ok, so I think I've decided to sell all (well, most) of my headphone gear and go for the gusto. I've been curious about the DT880's for years now, but never bit the bullet. All of a sudden, I'm hearing that they're bass-able, they've got great imaging and soundstage, and that they're quite...- omendelovitz

3.5mm mini jacks - ball bearing?
Funny, a search through the forum yielded nothing on the subject. I'm looking to swap the audio jacks in my supermacro IV with jacks that employ ball bearing connectors. Xin's built-in jacks stink and the switchcraft equivalent employ 5 PCB mounts instead of 3 (it looks like two of the prongs...- omendelovitz

tube amp for a Class-A lover?
I'm currently running a class-A all discrete amplifier from my VDA-2/VAC-1. I love it but am intrigued by the the increased sound-stage offered by tubes. I'm not a big fan however, of tube roll-off. I was thinking of the millet hybrid originally, however I've no experience with tube amps...- omendelovitz

ipod line out dock options
Ok, so my turbodock III didn't last very long, and as far as i'm concerned, ALO is not even a contender (his prices are too high, and even if his creations' resolution and SQ are as high as he claims [which I'm not disputing], IME the iPod doesn't have the resolution to match and make the money...- omendelovitz

problem with Heart CD - essential Heart
it's a remastered CD sporting 2 discs of all of this 70's/80's rock band's hits. MY problem is that when ripping the CD to FLAC, Crazy on You and Magic Man reveal some serious distortion (read: heavy static) on crash cymbals that completely ruin the song for me. I re-ripped the album and leveled...- omendelovitz

Squeezebox question: Upgraded PSU AND DAC? is it really necessary?
So I have a squeezebox; so I've upgraded the PSU to a linear, low noise unit. Sound improvement? absolutely. significant? definitely. Night and day? not exactly. So, I borrow a DAC from Looser101 (nicely modded VDA-1 w/modded power supply). Improvement? yes. significant? absolutely. Night and...- omendelovitz

high end closed cans - need your input!
I have searched the forum already, which is why I'm posting this thread. The wife keeps asking me to turn my GS1000's down when I'm listening at night (mainly when I listen to rock/pop music). I told her that in that case, I'd require a closed set of headphones. I guess that for all intensive...- omendelovitz

best dac under $700?
I'd appreciate everyone's help on this. So far it is down to the VDA2 and the Stello DA-100. I'm not looking for the best value, but the best sound. I was going to allow my wallet to hurt for the VDA-2, but then I read the "all the DACs money can buy" thread (ouch!!!). Thanks for the help and...- omendelovitz

squeezebox PSU vs. DAC - placeebo or the real thing?
Ok, So I have the SB3 combined with a Welborne PSU - that's my basic rig. I've also borrowed looser101's VDA1 w/modded power supply (thanks again, R!) to determine which sounds better and how to best use my SB3. So far, the PSU upgrade has improved the audio output of my SB3 immensely! The...- omendelovitz

killing the buzz - need help!
Hi all, I recently built a power supply for my squeezebox from Welborne Labs - http://www.welbornelabs.com/squeeze.htm; it uses a transformer to convert the voltage down - problem is that transformer is emitting a low grade humming that is driving me nuts! It's mostly inaudible, but it's...- omendelovitz

a must read if you are thinking of buying a supermacro, supermini or supermicro!
About a year ago I found a Supermacro 3v3 on sale in the for sale forum on this site. The seller was asking for a very fair price, so I jumped on it, wanting to see what all the hype about the supermacro was... After some time, I noticed that the volume knob was a bit wobbly. There was no...- omendelovitz

Hi everyone, I'm biting the bullet and getting an SB3 which I will PS mod (Welborne labs, I think) and DAC-ify.
