What is the bare mininum?
Matthew, Unless your system is already "maxed out", you'll get a lot more mileage by upgrading your headphones/amp/source than the cables. Of course, if your CDP is $2k, it's unlikely there's one you'll prefer for $2.2k, so that is a good time to buy a cable. Personally, I do not look for...- antness

why buy cables if your already paying 300$ for the headphones?
I'll agree with radrd on this one. A more logical reason for the detachable cable is so Sennheiser can include a cheap cable with the headphones and when that cable breaks, they do not have to do any labor in replacing the cable, simply send the owner a new cable, or more likely purchase the...- antness

Gilmore V2SE review - pretty long
Thump, The amp does not have crossfeed. As NewSc2 stated, PinkFloyd sells a barebones crossfeed device. For something a little more full featured, check out the Corda Cross from Meier Audio.- antness

mint-sonica hackjob (54k total)
You could check out the Lynx L22 soundcard for about $650. However, the best way is probably just to have a decent $150 sound card and a good external DAC.- antness

Sugden Headmaster VS. Emmeline HR-2
John, Yes there is an opamp in the Gilmore parts list however it is not in the audio signal. It is used as part of a servo loop to null any DC voltage on the output of the amplifier instead of the easy way of using an input/output capacitor. These capacitors, the good ones such as Auricaps...- antness

I've been eyeing the knobs on my Marantz 1060B as well. The sad thing is, knobs like that sell for about $15 each, with four knobs nearly the value of the entire amplifier.- antness

Sugden Headmaster VS. Emmeline HR-2
markl, I hope I send some Gilmores out to meets as well, but at the moment I can hardly spare one for myself. Once I start getting an inventory of these amps, I'll send them out to anyone who would like an audition. You also might want to check out the datasheets for AD797 to see a...- antness

Comparison: Gilmore V2-SE, Headroom Max and Others
Jan Meier has a sale on the RKV MKII for Headwize members (see his post on Headwize). The price is $870. I haven't heard the OTL32 so I can't comment on which amp is better, however I'm not sure if any impressions of the OTL32 with K1000 have been posted yet while the RKV has a great track...- antness

where to buy the META42?
There's no one place to buy the META42. Several members of the forum build and sell them to others, and Tangent is the supplier of the PC boards to build your own. His website is http://tangentsoft.net/audio- antness

Comparison: Gilmore V2-SE, Headroom Max and Others
Steele, I think a lot of people would be interested in a comparison. The only problem is finding someone willing to put a lot of time into it. If you're looking for an amp to power AKG K1000s, you'll most likely want to go with a tube amp although some vintage solid state power amplifiers...- antness

Comparison: Gilmore V2-SE, Headroom Max and Others
Markl, To date I haven't posted any pictures of the internals of the Gilmore V2. Also, you have to realize when a manufacturer takes those photos, they spend an abnormal amount of time perfecting a single unit - making sure every resistor is bent at a perfect 90 degrees, carefully organizing...- antness

Second Gilmore Recieved!
Tyll, Thanks for posting. In no way do I intend for there to be a conflict in names, and the Traveler isn't even an amp that's in production yet - consider it an interim name for a prototype. Also, I wasn't aware of the Traveler bag until recently. I'll change the name on that, although I...- antness

Second Gilmore Recieved!
radrd, I have no problem changing the name of the Traveler as a portable amp. When I thought up the idea, I wasn't aware that Headroom has a bag called the Traveler. After I noticed that, I thought it wouldn't be an issue since one is an amp and one is a bag. Also, take a look at the...- antness

Second Gilmore Recieved!
Jude, That's a rather poor analogy. The amplifier ServingInEcuador was talking about is called the "Gilmore V2 Max" not the "Max". Big difference. I had originally wanted to call the amp "Gilmore V2-SA" with SA meaning stepped attenuator, but too many people asked what the name was all...- antness

Second Gilmore Recieved!
I think an amp called a "maxed out" META42 built by JMT is quite popular. Have you heard of the Headroom Maxed out Home? In any case, I am glad if the only problem Jude, Elrod-Tom, and JMT have is the name- antness

It's called the Gilmore V2 Max....first it was abbreviated to V2 Max, now it's down to Max...we definitely need to keep some clarification between the amps, so let's make a note to call it at least V2 Max from now on- antness
