What is the best DAC/Amp combo that can drive small bookshelf speakers?
The NHT's are not really "PC speakers" but rather standard bookshelf speakers that I'm using with a PC as the source. Semantics aside, I think the MM-1 look nice! I read that the MM-1s have a USB connection as well as a 3.5mm analogue input source, if both are connected can you choose...- meemorize

What is the best DAC/Amp combo that can drive small bookshelf speakers?
That is certainly an option but even then I need the ability to manage 2 separate inputs (PC and Mac) with either a DAC or other kind of switch. Any suggestions on what setup I should be looking at?- meemorize

What is the best DAC/Amp combo that can drive small bookshelf speakers?
Hi everyone, So I have a pair or NHT Absolute Zero speakers (small bookshelf size) connected to my computers (1x Mac + 1x PC) via an NuForce Icon DAC/Amp. This all worked great but about a week ago I noticed the sound cutting in and out with loud pops that are the same type of pop sound...- meemorize

New Zealand Headphone Meet MK II, 2015 Ed.
Wow almost missed this if I hadn't stumbled upon the Reddit thread! :D Will definitely come along again this year though I think this year I will just be a listener instead of bringing all my gear as it hasn't really changed from last year. Good timing too since I am in the market for a...- meemorize

Reply to review by 'meemorize' on item 'Beyerdynamic T5p'
Thanks for the review, basically describes my needs perfectly as I am looking for a high quality open-office headphone myself. I auditioned the Audeze LCD-XC the other day and though they sounded great I was looking for slightly more lush mids and more thump in the bass to get a little closer...- meemorize

New Zealand meet, May 24th in Auckland
A bit late to the party here but just wanted to give a quick shout out to Murray and Billy for organising such a fantastic first NZ meetup and to all those who attended. Really nice crowd on the day. Was great to see the smiles all around when people were listening to their favourite tracks...- meemorize

New Zealand meet, May 24th in Auckland
Will there be WiFi or cabled internet available at the venue for use of the various music streaming services out there? Also, if I bring gear along, should I be showing up earlier than the opening time?- meemorize

New Zealand meet, May 24th in Auckland
I agree with everyone here so far. An entry fee might be a good idea, $10 or $20 should be fine either way. I do also like the idea of the entry fee to discourage any randoms from coming, because let's face it… there will be a lot of expensive gear in that hall and it'd be nice to know that...- meemorize

New Zealand meet, May 24th in Auckland
Hey this sounds awesome, I will come and bring my WA7 with the Electro Harmonix gold plated pings and an Audeze LCD-3 and my LA7000 to the show. If anyone is interested, I can bring along my Adële VK-1 as well but it's not super high end, just not many around one could test otherwise. ...- meemorize

High-end headphones in the Seattle/Portland area?
Hi folks, I'm planning a trip to Portland/Seattle in late August and since my home country (New Zealand) doesn't have any decent audio shops that carry high-end headphones I thought I'd try to audition a few high-end models while I'm there. Early web research however hasn't yielded a...- meemorize

Are there any good headphone shops in Wellington, New Zealand?
Hi folks, I know this is a bit of a longshot but I'm currently in Wellington (til Saturday morning) and have been trying to find a good headphone shop where I can audition some high-end headphones but have been striking out on the web so thought I'd ask here instead. If anyone has...- meemorize

Quote: Thanks a lot for all the detail! Helps me out quite a bit. Yea, I think (at least for now) I've got the amp/dac section covered for my home setup, but like you said, IEMs are definitely worth looking into. Since I will be using my M50s almost exclusively at work (once the...- meemorize

Quote: Oooh, now this has peaked my interest in the topic again. I currently use a M50 as my main can (until my LA7000 arrives) so since you know both rather well (M50 & HD25) how would you compare the two, what are their strengths/weaknesses comparatively? Quote: Ha...- meemorize

Quote: Well, when you use a headphone out (as you currently do) then that output is already amped by the device (usually a cheaper amp circuit with not as good a quality as a dedicated amp such as the PA2V2). A LOD (Line out adapter) plugs into your dock connector and picks up on the...- meemorize

I have given as much advice as I can, I simply don't own any high end IEMs (my most expensive ones are just $100) but from what you say about where and how you're going to use these I would go IEM rather than portable closed can. I suggest looking around the head-fi head gear...- meemorize

I would also think about whether you're likely to be in situations where you need to take the headphone off a lot and then put them on again as this gets quite annoying with IEMs where you always need to find a good seal afterwards, not a big issue really and I might be exaggerating but it was...- meemorize

Quote: I found that in a busy environment, outside (walking around, public transport,…), IEMs usually give you better SQ due to their much better seal. So rather than the possibly great sound coming from a over the ear closed hp being somewhat diluted by surrounding noise, with IEM you...- meemorize

How do you define "portable", because portable in my book is IEM only territory. Then again I do carry my M50 with me (in my bag) from work to home and back, so it is transportable. But I wouldn't really walk around with it outside to be honest.- meemorize

Well, seeing as you're still looking for some more people chiming in here I can tell you that I am quite happy with my ATH-M50 phone that I bought 6 months ago. Using it daily and it works great/is robust and sounds great. You can easily use it with or without amp with a noticeable but...- meemorize

ATH-M50 Coiled or Straight Cable?
I'm very glad I got myself the coiled cable. Even coiled the cable extends around ~140cm (~55 inch) before even 'stretching' the coiled part of the cable. To me the uncoiled version would get very hard to control especially when movement with these phones becomes a factor. On...- meemorize
