THE best female vocals? (your favorite female singers)
Christina Vidal. (But to be honest it's mostly for Lady Haden-Guest's solo... Exactly the right amount of shred without overdoing it.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMg5v-qWOtI -
THE best female vocals? (your favorite female singers)
(Crossover from Guitar- / Ukulele-Fi) Hester Goodman. Even dropping down to a whisper, rules the Albert Hall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw8ZDwdyHJQ&list=RDFw8ZDwdyHJQ#t=22 This is a genuinely beautiful rendition... -
Guitar-fi anyone?
Peers, eh? Always a problem until you staple their eylids open and make them watch every other YT of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. Harsh, I know, but they will be better people afterwards. It sems like you may not be able to get a Korala Explore in America. However, I saw...- David

Guitar-fi anyone?
Uke-Fi. Followng a work team building ukulele lesson evening, I got (after nerding out on the research) a black plastic Korala Explore Concert. Astounding example of cheapness done well. Injection moulded fingerboard and frets trumps wires hammered in haphazardly. Action and intonation is...- David

Thanks, KJ. I had migrated to Windows 7 quite a while ago, and have not has a moment's trouble from it from then on. (It's still going very well :) ) (I will keep RB in mind for when Microsoft inevitably pulls the W7 rug from under me. Not fancying W8 at all... )- David

My wife still gives me grief about us passing on the premiere of "Love Actually" here, because I can't stand Hugh "Action! floppy fringe, hesitancy, Cut! That's a wrap" Grant. Still can't, but I do have to admit that he was great that time in an actually great film. (Apart from the...- David

Does the latest iPod Classic sound similar to Clip+?
Could be they went off to do something more rewarding? Anyway, all audiophiles take care of their hearing. Banging one's head against a brick wall has long been a thoroughly proven contraindication.- David

Does the latest iPod Classic sound similar to Clip+?
My claims are entirely hollow too, and I certainly can't be bothered unrolling loads of charts. However, I like listening to stuff on my Clip. I can get tons of detail and volume out of it, and it sounds good to me, which is all that is important. I am sort of attached to it, and would...- David

...now seem a lot bloatier in later versions of the same model. And I doubt many people can park in garages built before the early 1970s. Same* with razors. The last venetian blind I used was a present from Mrs D, and very nice ( fancy porcelain handle ) it was too - apart from the sharp...- David

Quote: Wuss. :) Since I got bored with HALO skydiving, I like to start my day (early, while it's still dark) with a straight razor wet shave in the co-driver's seat of an (it's decidedly not a Geo) Metro 6R4 in the Kielder Forest. . ...and telling lies...- David

Just rewatched "Get Carter" 1970s England. Another world... Being fair-minded, I have looked at a bit of the remake just to make sure I didn't think it was terrible on reflex... Nope. It was definitely out of condition and Michael Caine did that for a living. Lead me to Harry Brown...- David

Iron Sky - from the cheapo pile in the supermarket. While "Nazis On The Moon" is a great pitchline, you sort of know it will not be quite as good as you hope. Surprisingly good, though. The cinematographer really knows his stuff, and it had a great Valvepunk look. And there was more...- David

THE best female vocals? (your favorite female singers)
Every year or so, I'll put Eileen Rose's name up again. I heard her doing backing vocals on the epic "Wade Into the Water" by Alabama 5 (A3 to anyone left of the Atlantic - or them off the Sopranos Theme Tune for everyone else and went and got as much of her own stuff as possible. ... -

If going for old stuff, I can highly recommend a Gillette Superspeed 1947-ish onward. Brilliantly well made, the mechanism is likely to be almost as good as new. Twist the handle, and the top opens up like a hatch. (Come to think of it, it's worth getting it for that... And doing the...- David

Op amp for Asus Xonar DS

Owing to upgrades, I (the Windows XP complainant :) ) have gone Windows 7. Absolutely no problems at all. I'm still using the player, still totally satisfied with it, and it is still going strong and loud. You won't find me sporting an iPod any time soon.- David

Op amp for Asus Xonar DS
I can't say if bottlenecking is actually an issue here. The difference between SQ on the Xonar DS swappable op amps is in their tonal characteristics. This may or may not be related to data throughput and benchmarking type results. Give me ears over stats any day. While I was very happy...- David

Op amp for Asus Xonar DS
... Result of domino effect add-ons. New GPU, a GTX560Ti, was pretty fat, and overhung the previously occupied (Soundblaster X-Fi, I think) PCI-E* (short 'un) slot, so I had to find a PCI* slotted card. Hence the Xonar DS. The Word was that the 4562 was the almost universally accepted op-amp...- David
