Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
I heard the Milo at the Wells Audio table with my own HE-6. That amp was probably the most gooey thing I've ever heard. Seriously sounded like you got drowned in tar while listening. I can see how people could enjoy it if they have never heard reference grade gear, but the amount of coloration...- ohhgourami

I'm one of those who has heard the AHB2 which I directly compared to my Krell Evolution 302e at home. Both are more capable than the HE-6 so they ended up sounding the same. Get the AHB2 and call it a day. The only reason why I didn't make the switch is because I need to drive ESLs.- ohhgourami

This sounds comparable to the FPB and EVO series which were Krell's high end reference models. Anything lower than that like the KAV don't come close. Pretty sure mine is US made but I'll check when I get home.- ohhgourami

I'm using an Anthem MCA 20 power amp which doesn't cost much at all. It sounds just as good as my Krell EVO 302e which means either my Yggy or HE-6 is maxed out. Throw the rest of the money on a really good preamp and you're set!- ohhgourami

There's a reason I developed the blutack mod in the first place. And initially I had the same feeling as you (wanting more quantity), but the quality increased dramatically. If you want it all, upgrade your gear.- ohhgourami

Those are Innersound Eros mk2's driven by an Innersound bass amp and Anthem MCA 20. It's an ESL hybrid created by Roger Sanders over a decade ago. The Krell is still on HE-6 duty as I got no room for now. It will have to wait another year.- ohhgourami

Probably better off with a Pass Labs: http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/649254214-bc-acoustique-362d-pass-labs-int-30-on-a-beer-budgetmaybe-either-way-an-incredible-value/ Seems affordable. I've never seen one drop to that low of a price.- ohhgourami

Having heard the Utopia on my rig during a meet, I can say the Utopia is not an upgrade. They don't scale the same way the HE-6 does through the right chain.- ohhgourami

Quit limiting people on amount of power an amp produces. I've been using 300wpc @8ohm amps for years and years. Watch the volume and you'll be fine. Some manufacturers don't make amps that only have 70wpc. For example, the least powerful flagship amp that Krell made for the Evolution series is a...- ohhgourami

Well...that is no surprise to me. From my experience, tube vs SS is irrelevant in this discussion. The important thing is that it's high end SPEAKER amps which completely trounces these purpose built (purposely neutered) headamps. I've been thumping this for years and years.- ohhgourami

Do both drivers make that sound? If it's only from one driver then play a mono track and make sure both sides sound the same. I know some people who have punctured their drivers and there was no change in sound.- ohhgourami
