HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone

No, and my HE-6 is gone on to a new owner so I can`t take any pics for you.  I remember when I was doing the change over, there was some discussion here and we realized that there is some variation in the screw-hole patterns among HE-6s, with some matching all 6 holes, some matching 4 and some matching none (!).

I also cut felt rings to place under the aluminum rings, so they`s be flush with the edge of the cups (because the original plastic rings were thicker than the al versions....)

Hmm that felt thing i might do. Considering the sunken trim rings, and Audeze Pads which i double sided taped to the plastic mount rings, the seal is too good that sometimes when i put on the headphones, the air pressure created from the seal, sometimes makes the membrane make a "crunch"/ "pop sound. This was a serious complaint i had with the Audeze EL8 and Stax SRx07s. I even put a straw in each of the pads to vent some air, but even sometimes it does it.

I did it, which effectively broke the seal and made the bass less and treble kinda harsh, and it's still making the crunch crunch noise:frowning2:

Pretty much got the same result with the Audeze Vegans with the straw mod but worse sound. The alluminum rings i might take out because so far the best result i had was with the stock ones

Visually its fine. Maybe im going crazy. Would i tell just from the sound if something was wrong?

Do both drivers make that sound? If it's only from one driver then play a mono track and make sure both sides sound the same.

I know some people who have punctured their drivers and there was no change in sound.

When i press the earpads together real quick, they both make that plastic crunch sound. I only noticed it yesterday when i put the new alluminum trim on, and even tested it by adding a ton of air space, and the old mount rings, and still make it. Maybe this was a pre existing problem i just noticed (for these phones are 2 owners before me used) or that i accomplished damaging the drivers during the modding process. Dont see how... I hardly touched the drivers. Will test with mono when i get home

Yeah...that's not a good idea.  Unnecessary strain on the drivers.

Hey guys!
Can anybody help me about best earpads for he6? There are Hifiman's Focus earpads which it seems that they aren't so durable. There are many Brainwavz options which I don't know how they alter sound on He6.

They are too expensive for me. (110$ per pair.)

I want some thing durable which doesn't make he-6 sound less aggressive

I have Alpha Dog Pads and Audeze Vegans. Vegans are the most neutral, where as with the Alpha Dog pads lose some clarity in the highs, Gain sub bass a bit, and maybe less vocal clarity. I think the loss in vocals and treble have to do with the soundstage increase you get from the pads. Think of it this way. You like HD600s: Audeze pads, you like HD650s: Alpha Pads.
