13th Calgary Head-Fi Meet - October 16 (Sunday)
Okay, took a while to commit, but I'm in on Sunday (won't be there till about 3:00). A friend of mine will also be coming to check some things out. I don't plan on bringing my Stax setup this time, So all I'll have are Denon D2000 and a HiFiMAN HM650 (I love this thing!). The HM650 takes...- JonJeffman

12th Calgary Head-Fi Meet - November 15 (Sunday)
I'm going to do my best to make it for a couple hours early on, but have to be out of there before 2pm. Excited to try some IEMs and figure out what I want Santa to bring me this year. Unfortunately I'm likely coming empty handed. Thanks for the hard work organizing all this...- JonJeffman

11th Calgary Head-Fi Meet Sunday May 31st, 2015 at University of Calgary
I'm planning to attend (but will likely be one of the "arrive early, leave early" attendees. I'll bring my Stax setup: SR-202 & Sigma normal bias 'phones with the SRM-1 MkII amp. I'd really love to compare to the SR-007! But... I don't have a source to bring. The SRM-1 has R/L RCA analog...- JonJeffman

9th Calgary Headfi Meet! Sept 8 2013
Just a note to anyone that's unsure of whether they should bring their 'lower end' gear or not - YES!!! While there is some extremely expensive and high-end gear at these meets, there's no elitism or snobbery. The reality is, as much as most of us would like to, not everyone is in...- JonJeffman

8TH Calgary Meeting!!!
Quote: That's bad news... I was going to juggle my schedule just to be able to make it to hear the 009's! And some of your Stax amps (I've officially gotten hooked on Stax). Do I remember correctly from a past post that you have a pair of Sigma/404's? I have some Sigma normal bias...- JonJeffman

Stax SRM-1 - two headphones at once?
Thanks for the info. As long as it's safe and won't damage the phones or energizer, then I'll likely try it to do some initial A/B's but I won't make any final conclusions (or any dedicated listening) with them both plugged in.- JonJeffman

Stax SRM-1 - two headphones at once?
Sorry if this has been answered before but have been searching around and can't find an answer. I have a Stax SRM-1 MkII, with both the normal and pro bias sockets. I just recently purchased a set of SR-202's to go along with my Sigma normal bias. Can I plug both sets of headphones in...- JonJeffman

Calgary Headphones Meeting June 19th 2011
Guess you learn something new everyday - didn't know the engineering lounge actually had a room number assigned to it. Go to the interactive map, Building: ENE - Engineering block E, Room: 134. Parking Lot 13 is the one just south east of the lounge (down & to the left on the map). ...- JonJeffman

Calgary Headphones Meeting June 19th 2011
Ok I haven't heard back from Wingstrike, so I'll make an executive decision. We'll hold it in the Engineering lounge. Here's maps of the campus, view the parking maps: http://www.ucalgary.ca/map/ I'd recommend Lot 13, $5 for the day (and I don't recommend trying to not pay - they're...- JonJeffman

Calgary Headphones Meeting June 19th 2011
I didn't realize the arts parkade was that cheap. I don't know those buildings over there that well though. I was thinking the engineering lounge would be perfect. Lots of tables, chairs, outlets, and lots of space. There's a small parking lot right on the west side of engineering that looks...- JonJeffman

Calgary Headphones Meeting June 19th 2011
University parking would be $5 for the day and the space I'm thinking would be best has a parking lot as close to it as you'll get on campus, maybe 40 m or so to the side door if I got there early & let people in. If it's really raining could also cut through a different building, then it's just...- JonJeffman

Calgary Headphones Meeting June 19th 2011
Was also thinking, not that I want to put this off, but maybe if we are rescheduling, it might be easier for people to accommodate it in maybe 3 weeks time. One week might be too short notice. What about some time middle of July?- JonJeffman

Calgary Headphones Meeting June 19th 2011
The 26th is likely out for me, unless the weather is horrible and camping plans get canceled. Colin, what are your thoughts about the U of C - just one of the open spaces, like we discussed when you were arranging the first meet? I think as long as we're not causing a ruckus no one will...- JonJeffman

Shure SCL4 repair ideas?
Wondering if anyone's tried to repair some Shure (or I guess any IEM's) before and could offer some advice. My SCL4's quit working - the warranty's expired and I'm not getting any help from Shure. The right bud is very quiet compared to the left, and if you turn up the volume, at a...- JonJeffman

Shure warranty
Just wanted to add my two cents to this topic, and say that it's not all roses when dealing with Shure's warranty. I have some SCL4's where the right bud is pretty much shot. It's very quiet compared to the left, and if you turn up the volume it makes a horrible distorted clipping sound...- JonJeffman

Stax SRS-2170 mini review
Quote: I'm kind of regretting it, but I had 2 more weeks of backpacking after Tokyo, and figured I didn't want to lug around that box the entire time (if I even had space for it). And used prices are about the same as the Japan price, so figured I'd just wait till I found some used.- JonJeffman

Stax SRS-2170 mini review
Okay, I just got back from Japan and had a chance to test out a bunch of Stax gear, which is pretty rare to find in my neck of the woods, so figured I'd share my review of the new SRS-2170. Disclaimers: (1) I don't claim to have a golden ear. (2) I didn't spend as long listening as I...- JonJeffman

Closed (no sound leakage) and wireless headphones for hearing impaired?
Hey, I just did the same sort of thing for a friend's dad, but I believe it was less that he had a hearing problem, but that he stayed up late & watched TV. I suggested the Sennheiser RS 160, which is closed, but that looked to be about $200. I saw they have a HD 62 TV, which is closed...- JonJeffman

Stax prices in Japan
Hi, So I've checked out Stax prices in Canada, and I know you can get them cheaper shipped from Japan (i.e. Seyo-Shop, PriceJapan, EIFL, etc...) but I'm actually heading over to Japan in a little over a week. Does anyone know if the domestic prices in Japan are even better than from the...- JonJeffman

Anyone heard the Stax SR-207's (or SRS-2170 system)?
I've listened to a pair of SR-202's and loved them, but didn't have the 303 or 404 to compare to (but I'm already stretching my budget just to get the 202's). Anyway, just saw the ads for the new SR-207's. Anyone heard them and could you comment on how they sound compared to the 202's...- JonJeffman

30th May 2010 Calgary, Alberta Meeting ( come and talk)
University Options: Okay, I spent the afternoon checking out options (sadly this was one of my more productive days in the last little while) and here's what I got: - The labs I have cardkey access to are a no-go. I'd get in trouble, so sorry but I can't risk it for this. -...- JonJeffman

30th May 2010 Calgary, Alberta Meeting ( come and talk)
Hi (not sure why I can't seem to post, so I'll try again), I checked out this lab and don't know how good it'd be. It's almost all individual study carrel's with a computer on each. So there's not much space to set up gear, and if we start unplugging computers I'm sure campus security...- JonJeffman

30th May 2010 Calgary, Alberta Meeting ( come and talk)
Hey furyagain, I checked out this lab and don't know if it'd be that good. They're almost all individual study carrels with computers on each, which wouldn't leave much space to set anything up. And if we started unhooking computers, I'm sure campus security would show up in a hurry...- JonJeffman

30th May 2010 Calgary, Alberta Meeting ( come and talk)
Hey, I'd be down for a Calgary meet. Most Sundays should work except the 23rd, so it seems like the 30th is starting to be the front runner. I (still) don't have any gear really worth bringing, as I just had a deal on some Stax fall through my hands. It pains me just to think of it, I thought...- JonJeffman
