The DIY'rs Cookbook
I don't remember what gauge it is, but should be plenty (I got it from golfnutz). It's not shielded once it goes into the Mutec. Length is only 3 feet. I guess that's about the only thing I haven't tried - rerouting the wires or shielding them, but it only happens after the device has been on...- somestranger26

The DIY'rs Cookbook
No luck getting the Mutec to stop clicking and popping. Hopefully I can get the SMPS back in, otherwise it's toast. Things I tried: -5V, 5.9V, and 6.3V power supply -With or without earth ground connected (on either end of the connection) -Removed SMPS -Soldered wires rather than using clips...- somestranger26

The DIY'rs Cookbook
...it down to 5.89V which is as low as it will let me. I tried turning the screw on the potentiometer another 15 rotations and it won't go any lower. *head scratch* my previous experience with adjusting these Chinese LPSes was that they could be adjusted pretty broadly. Noise is still there...- somestranger26

The DIY'rs Cookbook
I did measure the voltage at approximately 6.3V and tried turning it down to 6.15V like you said you measured the SMPS output at. I thought that fixed it but then it came back again. I will leave it on for a day and check the voltage again after the popping starts. Do you think it is OK to...- somestranger26

The DIY'rs Cookbook
I modded my Mutec and Rednet to use a linear power supply, but I am having an issue. It seems that if I leave the Mutec on for about a day then I start getting popping and crackling noises in the sound. I have to leave the unit off for a while to "cool down" for the popping and crackling to go...- somestranger26

The DIY'rs Cookbook
Did you figure out how to get the latch off the XLR connector? The post someone linked later in the thread mentioned a SIM card removal tool with an unspecified modification. I tried some small flat metal objects in the top hole and wasn't able to get it to come off. I am thinking about...- somestranger26

AUDIO over IP - REDNET 3 & 16 Review. AES67 Sets A New Standard for Computer Audio
Thanks for the pictures. That actually looks pretty simple to do. Could you explain what the bypass cap is for? I don't know much about electronics. Also, was the threading for the terminal strip one that was already being used by the SMPS or did you have to drill a new hole for that?- somestranger26

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
I had an NFB-10ES (similar amp) and found the M9/M11 amp to be a decent step up, and now I'm using an M3 speaker amp and it is a pretty large jump in SQ.- somestranger26

Audio GD Master-11(Combination from Master 7 and Master 9)
The NOS11 and Master11 do not use the power from the USB cable, so that gadget is probably a complete waste.- somestranger26

USB Strikes Back! Watch out AOIP - USB/Ethernet Chain beats All (at least for me)
***. He bought the wrong device and he posted his "own experience" of how bad it sounds. He "apologized" while still insisting that we don't know what we're hearing despite never owning the device we're talking about. Seems like a total troll to me.- somestranger26

USB Strikes Back! Watch out AOIP - USB/Ethernet Chain beats All (at least for me)
...the shelf and programming them is likely prohibitive regardless of their size. High end audio is a pretty niche market and I doubt they're selling *thousands* of DAVEs. Plus, if the FPGA is good enough to be on top then it might not be worth it to invest in an ASIC. With the right power...- somestranger26

USB Strikes Back! Watch out AOIP - USB/Ethernet Chain beats All (at least for me)
My Startech does not have the FPGA. I'm very impressed with the SQ improvement with just the SMPS that it came with. I'll get a Meiyan at some point. If anything I would expect the ASIC to sound better because it will do less processing to achieve the same result, so it would probably dump...- somestranger26

USB Strikes Back! Watch out AOIP - USB/Ethernet Chain beats All (at least for me)
Sigh, pulled the trigger on the Startech. I had a $100 off voucher to use on ebay by the end of the month so it came out to $380. I will be hooking it up to my SU1 -> DirectStream office system and at some point will compare with my Rednet 3 -> Mutec digital chain. Question about the flash...- somestranger26

USB Strikes Back! Watch out AOIP - USB/Ethernet Chain beats All (at least for me)
Any plans to try an M2 NVMe drive instead of a SATA drive, to see if there's any difference in sound quality? Like this one: http://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/ssd-960-evo-m-2-250gb-mz-v6e250bw/ It has a 13GB SLC cache to improve the speeds drastically...- somestranger26

They have a more expensive USB extender that uses fiber http://www.icron.com/products/icron-brand/usb-extenders/fiber/usb-3-0-spectra-3022/- somestranger26

USB Strikes Back! Watch out AOIP - USB/Ethernet Chain beats All (at least for me)
I'm interested in how your chain would compare to the Rednet without Fidelizer, usb sticks, etc. I use my computer for way more than just music, and am not willing to go to such great lengths to optimize the computer's power supply. That was one of the biggest draws of AoIP for me. I also...- somestranger26

Audio GD Master-11(Combination from Master 7 and Master 9)
I don't think just upgrading the chip to XU208 is going to make much of a difference. The clocks that they are using are subpar and there is no galvanic isolation compared to the SU1. The power supply is definitely better, but that's probably not as important as those other areas.- somestranger26

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
I took possession of an Audio-GD Master-3 recently and it's sounding great with the HE-6. Its sound quality is comparable to my Master-2H monoblocks in the other room, which convinced me to ditch my headphone amp. I had the M3 customized with 2 speaker outputs so I can flip between using...- somestranger26

Audio GD Master-11(Combination from Master 7 and Master 9)
I agree that for a $500 budget the Singxer SU-1 via I2S would be the best option. For a little more money you can get an Atterotech UnDAES-O which is the least expensive Dante AoIP solution and recently some members said that they couldn't tell it apart from the Rednet in blind testing. I have a...- somestranger26

AUDIO over IP - REDNET 3 & 16 Review. AES67 Sets A New Standard for Computer Audio
If that's an issue, you could try moving breakers around so they're on the same phase. Most of the latency is due to the computer, not the network.- somestranger26

You ought to try the HE6 out of a good speaker amp like the Master-3. I was thinking about upgrading to something like the Utopias until I heard HE6 out of my Master-2H monoblocks.- somestranger26

Audio GD Master-11(Combination from Master 7 and Master 9)
Got the firmware update tonight. Took about 5 minutes for them to do, not a big deal at all. I can confirm the channel imbalance seems to be fixed in NOS mode, and I think both NOS and OS modes sound better but NOS seemed to improve more (I thought it sounded really bad before, excluding the...- somestranger26
