The Altmann Tera Player - Thread
The durability/form factor and UI are simply perfect for me. I might add that my file organization is always peculiar and nothing like playlisting... Perhaps a modern touchscreen UI might benefit everyone else, but for the visually impaired or inconvenienced the pushbuttons are great! The...- fumanchu

5 days a week, 3 hours per day when home... When I travel, sometimes I'm on 10+ hours at a stretch. Usually I leave my cute iPhone where it won't get broken, whereas Tera is more like "equipment", performing flawlessly while working hard and on the move!- fumanchu

I figured if I "marked" it, it would just be less desirable anyway. The startup time, or lack thereof, makes this the only machine I care to deal with, besides the awesome sound quality. Hopefully I won't leave mine, but few finders really want a simple yet excellent sound experience. My...- fumanchu

I had my telephone number laser engraved just in case I ever lost it. We get around a lot together... You might surmise that resale value isn't a great concern for me, and I hope to still have this many years from now!- fumanchu

My Tera goes everywhere with me except on small boats, and no doubt shows dramatic wear. In addition to multiple drops and pocket abrasion, I accidently put a scratch on the button pad when it was in my chest pocket because I kept sliding my ball point pen next to it. I then put a square of...- fumanchu

As far as matching goes, an amplifier eliminates impedence compatability issues, yet the spacial qualities of Tera continue to amaze me. PLEASE let me try dedicated music products, but I'll tell you now that my iPhone 6 and macbook are both silly standins for music listening. I get the impedence...- fumanchu

I use Tera as practically Military-spec equipment at work ( where minor dropping, static shock, and vibration are constant hazards), gym, skiing, yard work, skateboarding and really just a tough life in general. I have only one great fear. I honestly think Tera can take all the abuse I give it...- fumanchu

Which strangely enough poses an interesting dilemma: Tera is as reliable as a hammer. I bet if anyone out there has had a problem, it turned out to be an issue with the card... If only we could count on warranty work to spur our upgrades!!!- fumanchu

The solution seems difficult: audition lots of headphones. It helps that many people have left their impressions and recommendations. I am extremely happy with 1964ears Quads, and used both amped and unamped. Putting my Portaphile amp into the mix frees me to use various headphones without...- fumanchu

In regards to detail, my Samsung S4 and various iDevices do a far superior job drilling the details into the center of my head. In particular, those details such as rim shots are brightly tattooed onto the cranium so as to be much more noticable than the Tera's more natural approach. Without a...- fumanchu

Information available at tera-player.com This machine is not for everyone. Like cheese or wine it has its own flavor and unfortunately it also has its cost. My Galaxy S4 is cheaper and for some much more convenient. I try to listen to it for almost an hour per week and struggle. On the other...- fumanchu

We can thank 9/11 and the extra vigilance of crew and TSA for your close examination. I hope you still kept your shoes! I've been under the impression that USB is always the same voltage, but amperage may vary. My iPhone had a 1 amp charger, but the iPad had a 2 amp charger, for instance. I would not imagine that USB on an airplane would be more than 2 amps though.- fumanchu

Sorry Sargatanas, and best wishes for a quick repair/replacement! So as to clarify for everyone, what was your recharge path? Directly USB from first class seat, or with your AC converter, and if so was it the AK converter or otherwise?- fumanchu

The Sad State Of The So Called Audiophile DAP Market
Or really I wonder if the Android and Apple systems would perceive the sound quality in the exact same ways. In particular, the emotional coefficients and spacial presentation recognitions might vary between engineers. The last thing we need is another arena in which those companies might compete!- fumanchu

Quote-Measurements isn't the end all factor when selecting gear. Your ears should be the final determining factor not a graph. The Sad State Of The So Called Audiophile DAP Market
I've recently heard really nice systems owned by other people. One guy was a dealer and had a $100,000 system and was comparing it to a $75,000 magna planar (?) system in the next room. Thanks for the response, Vlad ! My interest in Music takes me many places and I find myself wanting to learn Artist/song name on occasion. I'm really interested in checking out the highly regarded sound of the AK 120 (and the AK240 should that soon become available).
