Please Help: The Quest for Bass AND Clarity in a Headphone (puhlease help me!)
I'm listening to my DT-880s right now--Jackson Browne, For Everyman, certainly not a bass heavy album--and the bass is all there and more, nice and tight, articulate with authority. They swing.- briana

new setup with 4000
The Jupiter is a good CD player but I don't think it's up to the level of the headphones you mentioned, unless you're trying to make them sound warmer at the cost of some resolution. I think a used Linn Genki would be a better buy. I love the Linn Ikemi but soundstaging is not Linn's thing--it's...- briana

John Grado. Wow. Pure genius.
"And most consumer goods such as electronics that are imported are subject to the 25 percent tariff rate." Considering the extremely low cost of most imported electonics in the U.S. this is hard to believe, especailly since the average U.S. tariff on goods imports was 1.71 percent in 1999...- briana

new system suggestions appreciated; budget $3k
The thing that strikes me is you listen to mostly female vocalists. You could try the DT 880s, but since you seem to be satisfied with the ATs, next up is amp and/or CD player. You;ve got a pretty good budget but you've just purchased a low-priced dac. I'd go for an MPX3 with NOS tubes to really...- briana

Most "gentle" dynamic headphones?
I have the MPX3--stock tubes-- and DT 880s. On some older rock recordings there is a tiny bit of sibilance that you have to almost be listening for to hear. I can listen to these phones for hours with no fatigue. As for vocals, I just purchased the Louis Armstrong meets Oscar Peterson CD and...- briana

Singlepower Tube Amps
Carlo I'm using Oehlbach cones. They're made in Germany and I bought them here in Korea, where I live. I did not replace the original feet--to do that you have to remove the bottom plate and I didn't want to do that. Besides, Mikail advised against it, recommending cones.- briana

Singlepower Tube Amps
The new look is great and I wonder if I ordered at the wrong time, getting one of the last of the all metal MPX3s. But now that I've got it up on brass cones (the feet it came with weren't level, besides being quite small) it looks pretty formidable (and the sound is tighter). There are...- briana

Need some Advice: $800 to spend
I agree that the DT 880s will give you the sound you're looking for. A used pair matched with a used MPX3 will more than likely take you where you want to go for your $800.- briana

a new mpx3?
I've got the classic MPX3 with the EH tubes (without the upgraded caps) and it sounds mighty fine. You can hold off on NOS tubes until you can afford them and still have plenty of amp.- briana

new phones for x-mas. (dt-880's or...)
I don't listen to a lot of trance but early Porcupine Tree sounds great on my DT-880s. I think they are great phones that maybe get a little bit of disrepect due to their smoothness. But I think they do quite a few things quite well and they sure are a lot more comfortable than Grados. YMMV- briana

Singlepower cleaning question
Everytime I touch my MPX3 I leave a smudge or fingerprint on the metal case. What do you guys use to shine up your singlepower amps and keep them looking shiny and new? Thanks. Brian- briana

ATH-L3000 web limited color
QUOTE]At a price point such as the L3000's, (no matter what colour the leather comes in) I assume the owner would be quite carefull in handling it anyways, You never know, some student audiophile might blow their whole loan on a pair and wind up eating pbj sandwiches for a whole semester...- briana
