  Yup. The T51ps also isolate much much better than the Sony's making them better for commuting purposes. They also leak very little sound which is something that even expensive closed backs fail to do

I own the X5 and the A17 and imo you will not be sacrificing sound quality. The A17 sounds much better to me. Since the headphones you chose are pretty easy to drive you don't really need the power of the X5 either.

how do the on-ear M2 fare against the on-ear T51P?

My only wish is that the A17 had a way of managing the levels of L/R where you can lower the volume on one side. Only feature missing imo

That's what I did and never looked back. With ClearBass on the Sony has much better bass with the 325 than the X5. I like it.

  The A17 powers my Grado 325e just fine. Very loud and powerful to me.

   The mids sound better and stand out more on the T51P and the treble is just as MH described. The On1 is a more neutral headphone so that is the way the treble leans.

Yes. I have over 10000 songs and i could almost guess the next song every time because it would always make the same order. And even when i picked the starting point after a few songs it would revert to the list that i know. This happens when i try to "Play All"

But Shuffle play is all but broken on that firmware. I know because that was the straw that broke the camels back for me.

Same here. I gave up the X5 for something much much less frustrating. Good sound is useless when it brings you frustrations that don't allow you to just enjoy your own music.
