ASUS Xonar DS or Creative Xtreme Audio

From what I've heard, the X-Fi Extreme Audio doesn't even do EAX as well as the old Audigy cards. I'd get the Xonar DS simply because it will likely sound better and gives you the option of upgrading the opamp, even though it doesn't emulate EAX well at all. But on the other hand, it does do...

    Auzen X-Fi™ Forte 7.1

Has anyone tried using the AD797ARZ or AD797BRZ opamp with this card? I just ordered the Forte today and was going to pick up an opamp or two as an upgrade, but most of the comments I've seen about opamp rolling are about the OPA-627 or OPA-637. Auzen has the AD797AR listed on their site but I...

Chaintech AV-710 Setup Thread, Including True 44.1kHz Wolfson Output in XP

5.50A are the first drivers that have worked for me with Windows 7. I finally have multichannel sound being processed by the sound card instead of the CPU. Unfortunately I just purchased a refurbished X-Fi card through Amazon so this will only be useful until I receive the new card.

    Fundamental headphone design decision

If audio is recorded with the intent that it gets played back via speakers and thus, with the drivers in front of us and not at our sides, why aren't there any headphones with the drivers oriented the same way as speakers generally are? I understand they'd need to be louder because the drivers...

    Tube amp for my DT880

Another DT-880 and Darkvoice 336 user here. I can say with certainty that they make a great pair. I've got no regrets with mine.

    Darkvoice Problems

The same thing just happened to me the other day. I've also tried replacing the tubes with no luck. They still glow and several seconds after I turn it on I can hear briefly hear some very low volume sound coming through, but then it goes away and doesn't come back. Do these symptoms indicate...

ER4-P vs SA6 vs q-Jays! Comparison and impression Review (Very Lengthy)

Then your review is incomplete. A proper review has all of the pertinent information.

Edit. Nevermind. I had names and numbers switched when I read your last post.

SF5Pro versus Q-Jays (Do these threads ever end?)

I've not seen any frequency response charts to verify it, but I found the SF5's to be way out of balance. The q-Jays on the other hand, are about as flat to my ear as a pair of ER-4P's, but sacrifice some high end detail for better bass response. A fair trade if you ask me.

ER4-P vs SA6 vs q-Jays! Comparison and impression Review (Very Lengthy)

WTH is this +port stuff you keep referring to?

Help me choose a new IEM - SA6, q-JAYS etc etc

The q-Jays are pretty close to the Etymotics in terms of sound, though they do have better bass and slightly less analytical treble. The SA6 are good too, but not quite as close to the ER-4P sonically. The Triple.fi might be a good deal at that price, but they're not at all similar to your...

    Shure Black Foam from DiscountHeadphones.com

I got the same ones with the same cut up packaging. And yes, doing the stretch mod (to fit q-Jays) was a pain in the ass. And after a week and a half, they looked disgusting. They practically disintegrated. The worst though, was when I tried to remove them. They wouldn't budge. Now, the q-Jays...

Why wear headphones in your house?

It's far less expensive to get very high fidelity audio with headphones than it is with speakers. Also, volume becomes an issue at night. Can't have 20hz bass thumping at 2am unless you live by yourself and far enough away from neighbors.

Only me that finds the grado's extremely comfy ?

The flats that come with the SR-60's hurt my ears after a while, but using the bowls or the Senn HD-414 yellow pads are perfectly comfortable. I'm of the opinion that people are not adjusting the band correctly and are wearing them too tight.

Looking at Beyer DT770 and Alessandro MS-1??

Either ignorance is bliss or you're deceiving yourself. Neither of those phones are capable of reproducing music anywhere close to accurately.

Upgrade from SR-60's to ~$200-250 range

My source is a PC with an AV-710 (VIA ENVY 24PT) sound card via digital optical out to a Beresford TC-7510 DAC to the Darkvoice 336i.

Looking at Beyer DT770 and Alessandro MS-1??

The Sennheiser 280 Pros are like the inverse of the DT770s. They have NO bass below 200hz. Equally bad depending upon your perspective. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. There are a lot of much better phones than the 280 Pros and the DT770s in the price range.

Looking at Beyer DT770 and Alessandro MS-1??

I'd say the MS-1s are better for movies and games than the DT770s are for music. I've watched a lot of movies and played a lot of games with my SR-60s. Though Grados don't have an enormously wide soundstage, I actually prefer them for games because they place you right there. The same with...

Looking at Beyer DT770 and Alessandro MS-1??

Don't be surprised when your music sounds wildly different from what you've heard for years and not in a good way. The DT770 will HEAVILY color the audio. High fidelity they are not.

Looking at Beyer DT770 and Alessandro MS-1??

The problem with the DT770's is that they're terribly inaccurate below 200hz. I'm talking +9db off the mark. They're still +6db up at 20hz. Not to mention that they don't have the tightest bass, I'd say they're the very definition of boomy, excessively bassy phones.

Upgrade from SR-60's to ~$200-250 range

The AKG K340 does sound interesting. I'd like to hear an electrostatic alternative to Stax, but I think first finding them will be a problem, and then there's the problem of getting them for a reasonable price. I think since they've been "rediscovered" the cost of even heavily used pairs has...

    Allesandro MS-1 a bad substitute for UM2

It really depends on how much you want to spend. I've been investigating Grado alternatives myself, and Beyerdynamics have been highly recommended (really just the DT880 - the DT770 and DT990 are not nearly as good from what I've read) and many AKGs are quite popular as well (K240DF and Sextett...
