I was looking for a splitter to plug my headphones (well the amp) and my speakers into my Xonar DX, and I came across some posts on head-fi claiming you need a switch to maintain sound quality. Is this true in practice? Am I going to really notice the difference?

It happens infrequently with my Xonar DX and it's quite a shock to hear. It's deafening static that randomly blares when starting or tracking through videos. Is this a problem with the entire line or just some random stroke of bad luck, like a faulty or failing card? I've seen some other cases...

A little under 4 years and the audio in the left channel is going out. I believe something has gotten loose where cord enters the housing. When I shake it around the audio comes back temporarily. Has anyone fixed these before? I'd like to get at least another year out of these.
