Looking for recommendations on source device for computer speakers

I'm planning on upgrading my speakers to something more substantial like the Elac Debut b6 (currently using swan m10s) and I just pulled out my xonar dx due to various problems I have with it. Are there any specifically designed receivers or DACs for computer audio? I use a schiit stack for my...

Are passive switches as simple as they seem?

Just a bunch of connections going to a switch? I'm looking for a nice desktop solution to switch between my headphones (the amp) and my speakers from my DAC and I'm considering just building my own. Is it as simple as it seems to make a decent switch box or do passive switches introduce problems...

Do 3.5mm splitters actually affect sound quality?

I was looking for a splitter to plug my headphones (well the amp) and my speakers into my Xonar DX, and I came across some posts on head-fi claiming you need a switch to maintain sound quality. Is this true in practice? Am I going to really notice the difference?

Schiit modi 2U not much of any improvement over Xonar DX

Though I am only testing this on my Swan M10. I don't have an amp yet so I haven't tested any headphones, but there doesn't seem to be a difference from the speakers. It is nice not to get random loud static but it's such a rare occurrence I'm beginning to question whether I should keep the Modi...

Are there any RCA splitter plugs? That is, a splitter with no cable.

I'd like to avoid any more lengths of cable as much as possible.

Are there any relatively cheap ($150ish) headphone amps that don't experience channel imbalance at low volumes?

I'm looking for an amp that can also act as an effective volume controller from near-silence to as much as my ears can take.

Has anyone experienced loud static from their Xonar sound cards?

It happens infrequently with my Xonar DX and it's quite a shock to hear. It's deafening static that randomly blares when starting or tracking through videos. Is this a problem with the entire line or just some random stroke of bad luck, like a faulty or failing card? I've seen some other cases...

Going from HA-FX700s to ultra budget (<$40), need recommendations.

The left channel on my HA-FX700 is going out and I need something to replace it, at least half a year. If anyone knows how I can disassemble and fix it or get it repaired, please let me know in this thread or http://www.head-fi.org/t/782737/how-do-i-disassemble-a-hafx700-iem But in the meantime...

    How do I disassemble a HAFX700 iem?

A little under 4 years and the audio in the left channel is going out. I believe something has gotten loose where cord enters the housing. When I shake it around the audio comes back temporarily. Has anyone fixed these before? I'd like to get at least another year out of these.

Looking for a better source for my microphone (a modmic)

I have a modmic 4 that is apparently receiving volume very low through my Xonar DX. If I activate the microphone the quality goes to rubbish, boomy and picks up all sorts of noise, and the sound card has no options to control the gain or reduce noise and as far as I can tell from reviews it...

    Best tips for JVC HA-FX700?

Right now I think I have Sony hybrid tips on them but I'm running out (lost a tip today). Is there anything better?

    Female vocalists with piano accompaniment?

Like Sara Bareilles and (sometimes) Norah Jones.

Best performance of Edward Elgar's works?

Well, I'm looking for a balance between best performance and recording quality of Elgar's Enigma Variations (complete).

    Best balanced IEMs?

Around $300 or less. Right now the JVC FX700s are my daily drivers but I guess I'm getting a little tired of the V signature and I'm missing the style of my old Brainwavz M1. I guess I could always just use them but I wouldn't mind trying out higher end IEMs.   Or perhaps something with the...

    Best V-shaped IEMs for ~$150?

By V-shape I mean the sound signature. I used the Brainwavz M4 before and generally I don't think I'll be using it again for service and build quality issues. I've been told they're the best around for under $100 but how about a little bit more?   Right now I'm also looking at the ATH CKM77...

    Are Grado SR80is durable?

Where can I find 2.5mm to 3.5mm cables or adapters for the MM400?

The sennheiser MM400. I got one used a while ago but haven't been able to use it because the 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter cable I got from monoprice is just too fit at the head to fit.

    Best IEMs under $100?

That have a V-shaped sound signature. Or balanced is okay too. And please don't say the brainwavz m4. I had a first bad experience and now I'm a little suspicious of my second pair as well, though they haven't had any problems. I'll probably try to sell the 2nd pair since they're nigh-new. So...

    SHR 440 or SHR 840?

I've heard the 440s are quite similar in 840s for much less. So would they be a better option in terms of cost to quality or is the 840 simply worth the extra money? Also, what do both sound like, sound signature that is. I've heard neutral, though I'm unsure if that means analytical or simply...

What are the best IEMs for $150-$200?

Had a bad run in with a pair of Brainwavz M4s and mp4nation's policy has dissuaded me from purchasing again. At any rate I need a new pair of IEMs and I figured I might as well go with something a bit more high end. I was looking at the Sennheiser IE8s but those are out of my price range and the...

Anyone ever try these "Hyundai" Clip-ons from dealxtreme?

They're clearly not by the Korean Hyundai...Just about everything on Dealxtreme is from some small time Chinese or Taiwanese company. http://www.dealextreme.com/p/ear-hook-stereo-earphone-with-mutable-microphone-2-5m-cable-13672...

Choosing between the ATH ESW-9 and the Ultrasone PRO 750

I know the ESW9 is on ear and much smaller, but since they're in the same price range I figured they'd both be viable options as portable headphones. Which would you guys recommend? Is the ESW9's bass really that powerful and boomy? I've heard some people compare it to Beats which sounds...

Are there any upcoming portable headphones that look interesting?

At a ~$150 range. I was looking at the HD-25-1-II and the ATH ESW9 but right now I'm not entirely sure about spending $200 new, or looking for used cans. Especially since I heard the ESW9 have some issues with the hinges, and the cable isn't detachable which seems like a poor choice for a...

What's the next step up from AD700s?

I mainly use my headphones for gaming and use my speakers for music, but recently I've been realizing that the channel splitting is just much more distinct on headphones. I usually have virtual surround sound on for gaming so I forgot how great music sounded in just stereo. I'd like to get...

    Brainwavz M1 -> B2

As far as an upgrade goes I'm sure it's worth the money but more importantly how much of a sidegrade is it? If I go from the M1 to a B2 how different would the sound signature be?
