Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones
Quote: James I have been listening to Classical for about a decade, and a very good source for vinyl is believe it or not Goodwill stores. I have bought 30-40 records at a time for 50 cents a piece. At least 3/4 of them are very playable, and I do screen them for defects, before I buy...- clifwst

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones
Quote: Yes and no. I liked lots of music from the late 60's and early 70's at the time, and didn't hardly listen to classical at all. I still like some of the music teenage years, (I'm 55 now) but I listen to lots of classical these days. Today, I can go from Steely...- clifwst

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones
I also have the Cambridge audio 740C and 840C, Rega Apollo (used in a basement rig), and had a Bat VK-5dse, The perfect wave beat all of them, is marginally better than a Rega DAC which I own, and use in a second bedroom system and sold an Anedio D1 dac which I really didn't prefer. ...- clifwst

Cavalli Audio Liquid Fire
A second site to read and think about when considering dipping into vinyl. http://www.high-endaudio.com/ I have read most of his site, and learned quite a bit, his vinyl sections for reference components turntable, tonearm and cartridge helped me work out what I might want. ...- clifwst

Cavalli Audio Liquid Fire
I searched Audiogon, and found one. Right now there is a Nottingham Spacedeck with Space Arm on Audiogon from a dealer in Fla. I cannot get the link to post since the new "upgraded" Agon website, but if you go to their homepage http://www.audiogon.com and search for...- clifwst

Cavalli Audio Liquid Fire
I went with a Nottingham Spacedeck with the Space Ace tone arm for my vinyl rig, works wonders with the Cavalli LF and LCD-2.2s with a seperate phono stage of course. Relistening to a lot of my older vinyl, and am quite surprised how good they sound after a good LP cleaning, with Ortofon...- clifwst

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones
Quote:^ some would argue "yes" :P Well I get the same reaction when people find out what a Harley Davidson Dresser goes for now a days. $20,000+ Ai n't no beats or motorscooter that would come close. After all it is just $ and I can't take it with me.- clifwst

Quote:Now the HAL9000 evil-eye power button LED is a whole 'nother story. I just set a cup or book in front of the glowing orb of power. I know that Spinal Tap wanted their amps to go to 11, but why does the LF orb light shine like it is on 111?- clifwst

Cavalli Audio Liquid Fire
I asked the same question, and he said they should work. The 7308 is the same inside as a 6922, except the two sides are closely matched to each other. That was important for some of the military applications the tube was originally used for. Between tubes the tolerance for 7308s was...- clifwst

I spoke to Dr Cavalli about it before I ordered mine, he said it was possible, but not something I would want to try with out a good electronic background. He was considering the idea for future changes to the amp, pre outs that is.- clifwst

It's according to what you consider high end. I own the Cambridge audio 840C their TOTL player, I also own the Anedio D1 and Rega DACs which both cost less then the CA 840C. I think the stand alone DACs sound better then the CA 840C, not by a large amount, however enough so they are...- clifwst

Review: Anedio D1 DAC - my new reference DAC
I own both the Anedio and Rega, and from my perspective they are close to each other. This is from many months of listening both on my main rig with Thiel speakers, (both 3.5's and 3.6's) and my headphone rig with Liquid Fire+Audeze LCD2.2's. The Anedio get a slight advantage in the...- clifwst
