Review : AUDINST HUD-MX1 DAC/amp - a promising newcomer (compared to Audio-gd FUN, AMB Gamma2)
crap, I just realized i misquoted headphoneaddict's sentiments regarding D10/4 vs udac. somehow i confused pico with d4 x_x- omniloathe

Review : AUDINST HUD-MX1 DAC/amp - a promising newcomer (compared to Audio-gd FUN, AMB Gamma2)
judging from all the reviews from various different sources: pico < uDAC < Audinst < Fun Though there are also sources saying that Fun and pico are still very similar in terms of quality, so either they are mistaken or the diff b/w the 4 is minor (the latter is probably true either way)...- omniloathe

Review : AUDINST HUD-MX1 DAC/amp - a promising newcomer (compared to Audio-gd FUN, AMB Gamma2)
great job, waiting for further analysis. Was planning on getting a uDAC + amp, but this seems more promising. Just a normal USB port can power this, correct?- omniloathe

DAC for a newbie
do you already have the grados sr80 and the amp? because i would expect uDAC to be able to power the grados sr80 pretty well by itself. You can skip amping for now and use the budget to get a higher price lv dac or headphones i.e sr125 uDAC is very popular right now, and its very good value...- omniloathe

uDac questions and sound card
Nuforce uDAC | HeadPhones | Fulcrum Audio They sell for $99, $10 cheaper than macgroup. I think their shipping for gta is $7, which is also cheaper than macgroup- omniloathe

Opinions please :)
Just a tip, Long and McQuade sells dt990pro at the absurdly cheap price of CAD180 before tax. You definitely need an amp though. Its the same as premium 990, just tighter and not as cool looking. Canada computers sells Creative Aurvana Live! for 79 or so. IF they are indeed just like denon...- omniloathe

Stock (as in NYSE) Advice
Quote: Why would anyone be in stocks at this time? Run away. now is a good time to buy. Not as good as 6 mth ago or even 1 year ago, but still good. You always buy when the market is down and sell when its up. why do you think its called 'buy low sell high'?- omniloathe

USB cables question
i probably would spend <10, or even <5. Just need usb and maybe RCA cables. wish i'm in the US. Everything would be much cheaper. shipping, tax and fees add almost 20-25% to purchases of 2nd hand HP on the forums -.-- omniloathe

USB cables question
Need one for DAC, have a few questions. Aprox how long would a usb cable before the sounds starts to degrade? On a side note, if anyone knows where to get a 0.5/0,75/1m (shorter = better) 2.0 usb cable in canada please post. Bringing my 2m cable around is quite inconvenient.- omniloathe

Solid State vs. Tubes: Which one(s) and why plus more
I'm certain that a good DAC will crush the quality of a portable video/mp3 player like S9. Source is the most important aspect of the music and all else being equal have a much greater effect on music than an amp. Also, I'm pretty sure bravo won't give you a good idea of what a tube amp...- omniloathe

Beyerdynamic DT880 *closed-back*
Quote: Note that 250 ohm systems are totally different creatures, they are dead slow in comparison, a 250 ohm version is rather a rumbling Ambient machine IMO. could you provide more information regarding this point? I'm surprised the 250 and 600 could as huge a diff as u are...- omniloathe

Quote: So are the DT-880's similar (or better) then the DT-990 or about the same? Same lv of comfort, the sound is somewhat different though. Just do a search for dt880 dt990 and u can find tons of info on the difference. Since U already tried the 990 u should be able to gain more...- omniloathe

DACs and speakers
Not sure if this should go here, but w/e Anyways I was wondering if headphone DACs will work for speakers? Does the speaker's type (2.0, 2.1, 5.1) matter? Logically it seems the DACs should only work for 2.0 speakers, but i arent too sure.- omniloathe

Laptop Setup?.
the D2000 is much easier to drive than big juice sucking headphones like k701, hd600, dt880/990. I'm sure the sound would still improve with a good amp, but relatively less so compared to the 250ohm/300ohm phones. since its easy to drive and uDAC already have an internal amp. i think u should...- omniloathe
