Sonic Satori - HRT Levels the Field with the MicroStreamer
Can someone help me -- I want to replace my Music Fidelity V-DAC (first version, only does 16/48k) with something that will do 24/96. 192 would be ideal, but I'd like to keep it under $200. So far it's... Microstreamer - $200 Dragonfly 1.2 - $150 Dacmagic XS - $200 It doesn't need to...- Xoton

Best DACs with asynchronous 24/192 or higher USB and volume control? W4S DAC2? Up to $2000.
I'd also like to replace my VDAC. I just need something that'll put out 24/192. I've accumulated a lot of hi-res files since I got the VDAC so it's time for an upgrade. Any suggestions? My budget is under $200 though. But I would like to know what's out there - up to $400 if need be.- Xoton

Expensive optical cables worth it?
So what's the difinitive head-fi response to this question? I'm about ready to pick up a new optical cable and was wondering if it matters. I did notice a huge difference in COAX. I plugged a mid-grade COAX into my system, and IMMEDIATELY said, "woah, where's the sound?!!" and quickly went...- Xoton

Musical Fidelity V-DAC Owners?
You can switch between, USB and Coax/Opt. I haven't tried running both Optical and Coax at the same time. I don't think it will work. I will try it though...since I have a similar interest (TV through Opt and CD through Coax).- Xoton

Musical Fidelity V-DAC Owners?
Oh man! I just put on Beck's Information cd. The V-DAC is deliverin'! This album has a very rich and dense production courtesy of Nigel Godrich - so this has always been a headphone feast. Amazing micro-details, great bass. I'm hearing things I've never heard before...and with precision and...- Xoton

I think I know what you mean about rhythm and timing. I do feel there's a squishiness or lack of focus in that regard. I really can't explain it. But I think I understand. Overall, the sound is spectacular though.- Xoton

I've had the V-DAC for a couple of days now, with probably only 10 hours or so on it. I'm also completely new to the DAC-world. Of course we've all been using DACs whether we know if or not, this is my first dedicated DAC. First I love the size and build. It' looks great with my SR-71...- Xoton

Looking for DAC options max 400$
I'm a happy new owner of a Music Fidelity V-Dac. I runs $300 bux in the USofA, and sounds awesome. It's compared very well to those mentioned here. I personally have zippy experience with DACs, but this thing is dy-no-mite! Check out the V-DAC thread.- Xoton

Cool, thanks for everyone's help. I just overnighted a V-DAC (arrived this afternoon). And well,...wow. I'm running USB out of my laptop, and I'm really hearing some great stuff. I haven't hooked it up to my DVD player coax yet (to lazy to play wires)...but I'm really hearing great clean...- Xoton

Musical Fidelity V-DAC Owners?
Can someone tell me if the V-DAC would be a noticeable improvement over my Panasonic DVD player? It's a Panasonic F87 that cost about $125 almost 10 years ago. It's nothing fancy -- but 300 bux could get me a new DVD Player!!! Help!! I'm new to the DAC world.- Xoton

Will the DacMagic allow me to run both my DirecTV receiver via Optical, and my CD player in Coax -- then run those out to my Onkyo Receiver out of the optical and coax outs, while also feeding my headphone amp out of the rca outs? Well I do have interest in SACD and DVD-Audio. But my main interest is just getting a decent affordable source. I might be better off just getting a good entry level dac like the V-dac and using what ever transport (my laptop, my existing dvdplayer.) Would getting a decent dac be the best...- Xoton

Good Discount DAC for Oppo980
I'm going to pick up the Oppo980, as I understand it's a pretty decent source...but I figured I need a good DAC. I was looking at the Music Fidelity V-DAC, for $300. Is it worth it? Is there anything for $200 or so that would be fine?- Xoton
