why not just put the songs in separate folders?  For instance I have 30GB of albums sorted as such:   genre folders ---> Artist folders ---> album folders ---> songs.   i have 6 genre folders, and then a large amount of artist folders under each, between 1 and 15 albums under each...

Sounds great, not the easiest to use in the world, but still quite functional, and quick.  But it doesnt have buttons, its all touch based.   Way under your $300 ceiling, so buy one and try it out.  Im quite happy with mine.

rockboxed my x5, thought ii noticed a bit of a change. But it wasnt as pronounced as i hoped. Again it was too close to say definatly, and personally it took away a bit to much finctionality as well. In 6 months i bet rockbox will be so much better then i wouldnt have to dual boot it.
