Wow - I was a greedy jerk and sold mine on ebay like 6 months ago and got $445. Then took that and bought RS-1's for ~550. The HF-1 is a rare collectable though.

Is that where the same user under a different name ups the price on the item by repeatedly bidding? If so, wouldn't that just screw him over, because now he won his own auction and thus they won't be sold and he has to pay eBay fees as well.

If there isn't shilling going on, then definitely the winner got suckered into over paying for them. Looking at the bidding history of that auction I also see one bidder in that auction who routinely bids on vacuum tubes on ebay.
