Right now using the default (auteur?) Lambskin... Thought that was the right choice for me... Any suggestions there? Looking for more mids and low-mid highs (voice, guitar, violin etc), I do like the soundstage and detail with the current pads though
Also check out the pads page on ZMFs site, which has a specific section for each headphone: https://www.zmfheadphones.com/zmfpads

(What would you call Abida Parveens voice btw? It's pretty low but still not quite bassy?)
I found the Auteur Hybrids to have more mids than the lambskin while keeping the same soundstage and detail. BE2 lambskin will give you the most mid forward sound but you lose the 360 soundstage and gain super huge width with them.

Universe Leather pads will give more heft to the low mids and pushing them more forward than Auteur Leather. BE2/Verite Leather will bring down the low end making the mids feel more balanced but the treble definitely feels brighter, not strident or too much, but cymbals cut through with more authority. Also, with the BE2/Verite Leather, I turn it up a little bit to match the level of the UL in terms of engagement.

If you're not opposed to EQ, give that a whirl. You can keep the AL soundstage and bump up some mids.

Should I go with the VC's to pair with the Atrium or wait to the Atrium Closed? I am thinking to order it this night.
Which one you like more since now you got both?

I love the Autuer hybrids. Probably my favorite pad I've tried. I do think the Autuer hybrids have more mids, soundstage maybe slightly more intimate, and I think detail is better because it's slightly more focused sounding. To me it is a more cohesive and focused sound compared to the Autuer Lambskin.

Try out universe Suede as well. Definitely more linear then Auteur Lambskin.

Managed to get an amazing deal on some Koa LTD VCs from the classifieds, and have had them for a month now (and finally made it to the end of the thread  ). I love them with the Auteur lambies installed. Was really worried about the weight--and these are pretty light for VCs, 503g on my scale--but I got used to them pretty quickly. Noise isolation is also great, which is nice for me since my desk is below an air vent.

Not really an audiophile and this thread is full of detailed descriptions of how these sound. For me, these have the 'it factor' I was hoping for in buying pricey headphones when it comes to violin-centric music. I listen to a lot of classical crossover and the sound for violins (acoustic strings in general), it's just *chef's kiss*.

These have already made an appearance upthread but who says no to headphone porn?

I always come back to this pair when I do some pad rolling. I just love the clarity from them.

Regarding the pads, I tried the Auteur Lambskin, Auteur Hybrid, BE2 solid, and Universe Hybrid with a neutral/bland amp/dac. I know the Auteur Hybrids were heavily praised, so I went back to test them again just to make sure, because I got them specifically after reading many praises. BE2 Solid was recommended by ZMF as the secondary pad to Auteur Solid.

Universe Hybrid is the best, only with less soundstage width than auteur, but better in everything. Even mid-bass quality is superior to auteur lambskin. Imaging is better on universe hybrid, soundstage height is more noticeable. Notes float around and above with universe hybrid compared to auteur hybrid. the sub-bass and dynamics is lacking on auteru hybrid so it only works well with ballads and vocal tracks. universe hybrid also has more details than auteur hybrid. when ppl say "the details are still there but it's softer in the background", i just ignore it. I am straining to hear the details on the auteur hybrids, which basically means I am missing them. Completely different story with the Universe Hybrids where i hear the micro-dynamics of guitar plucks and strums.

If you need an earpad that is actually good with every genre, then the Universe Hybrids is the one I recommend. It is also the only one that manages to allow the VC to barely pass my sub-bass test (im guessing Universe Solid might do a bit better in sub-bass with some sacrifices).

auteur pads could pull the mid-range back but it does lack soundstage height and imaging compared to the universe hybrid. the mid-bass is best with universe hybrid as well.

Note these impressions are based on pairing with neutral/bland amp/dac and cable that emphasizes resolution, clarity, and space.

I've already posted on the Gear thread, but I haven't posted here yet. I got my VC Camphor Burl on the 15th and is now burned in. I love it. It has bested my Eikon, which is what I hoped it would do since it's top of the line. Mine started out installed with the Auteur Suede, but I switched to the Universe Lambskin. That sound is what is the best for me and I love it. I need to carve out a day to spend time with all my main ZMF's. (I have the Eikon, Atticus and the old Blackwood planar also.)

WOW.

I just picked up a VC from a user locally and IT'S SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE MDR-Z1R...
It's a VERY enjoyable sound, it's my first ZMF and i can understand why there are fans of Zach's pieces...
It's not muddy, bass-bleeding or bright. It's also not overly dark oder too warm. The VC has punch and slam.
It's... neutral fun? Is that even a thing? It's a bit more laid-back and less aggressive than neutral but on the other hand not overly laid-back...
That's a very fine line there.

Also the weight is VERY low, i got a limited Koa wood edition, it's very light and super comfortable AND IT DOES LOOK GORGEOUS.
I'm very happy with this thing...

The two complaints:
Sound isolation is weaker than the Elegia (now i want a Stellia haha)
Subbass can't compare with the Abyss (DUH, REALLY? THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE COMPLAINING?)

Pair it with good OTL and sub bass will rumble
