Beats may not sound the best, especially at a high price.
However, Beats are more for the people who want the name and branding.
i am a listener to classical music so the beats would be the polar opposite
of what I would want. They may not sound good, but they do look gorgeous.
So its for the people who want a fashion statement.

What about the development costs and expense of manufacturer in europe. Seems cheap

Having said that Beyerdynamic don't charge a premium for being 'Hand made in Germany'

I think so far for me Beyer is the only one that didn't take much 'burn in' time lol

QC seems pretty top notch

ofc you will have the odd defect here and there but lately watching all the studio live sessions on youtube, beyers are everywhere

and live gigs on the radio are serious business

I find it a bit strange to see the 770s deployed in studio applications despite its inappropriate signature.

I think the 770s are more used for recording purposes because they are comfy and dont leak into the mic (probably at low volumes). Also isolate quite well. I dont think they are used for mixing (unless the 600ohm version)

If anything i would think 880 would be used for mixing or double checking at least

Most of the beyers I've seen are dt100/150, 250, and occasionally 770 for recording

I am a relatively new guy here.I listen to baroque. Trevor Pinnock is my favorite.
Ever since I tried on the hd 800, i became a far more critical listener.
I have the blue m50x. This may not seem like the ideal headphone for classical
because people note it for its tight bass good for hip hop, but I think that is it perfect
as it is perfectly warm but not too warm and does not cause fatigue from the high notes of the strings.
Although super popular, it is a great headphone.

the dt660 worked very well off a portable for classical as advertised on here by many
besides the comfort, and the cringe worthy headband folding system

Yeah its a steal. Also they opened up after 10 hours. Im thinking most in the pad settling, and the headband foam contouring so it stays in place.  $79

And though not the best for all genres, they're not bad at all. Could be seen as a tad bright, but it depends on the source. Mine plays beautifully off a Samsung tablet.

440s/860s were also priced quite low last time i checked. And the clearing out of the 770s,880s,990s

Yes can be a problem some care need keeping it in the groove initially. The cable will conform to the shape after a short period of time. Mind you my HD25 have the old original steel cable not the Amperiors odd arrangement. But one of the best things of this range is its interchangability and parts back up officially and otherwise

The Focal Spirit Classic is a wonderful closed phone with classical. I've only had the DT660s open brothers DT440 /860 unfortunately. However I prefer the Focals to the big old Beyer DT150 despite the latter's soundstage advantage and I'm a very long-term beyer fan. They just have absolutely perfect tonality, perfect for me overall sound with almost any genre. IMO.

Although even a HD25 can sound very decent with classical via Mojo believe it or not. It just adds so much air and separation to headphones. Small closed almost sound large open. A rare case of source first

where can I get the info regarding the cost? holding my 800S and closely inspecting them I see more than $80 total cost, and that isn't even taking into account research and development costs. Tooling and parts sourcing. Assembly, calibration, testing, packaging and distribution.

Ponder? how about some fact. and yes I do agree that the cost is more that it should be, but $80?

Exactly what on the HD800 can possibly add up to $80? Any solid gold parts? No. Cups leather, aluminium, some metal. Sennheiser has been at this for decades. They're not paying a premium for their parts. Great tech? Yes, actual cost of parts?

R&D? Come on. More R&D was poured into improving the HD25, how much does the HD25-II, 3, and Amperes cost?

Calibration and testing? So no other headphone company in the world does that?

If you're going to throw out $20 for the Beats as flat cost do it for everyone else.
