Okay if ultimate isolation mixed with great sound quality and last a life time build quality then get a pair of Sennheiser HD25s.

The Solo 2s actually replaced my Amperiors as my primary portable on-ear.

I'm sure there are many more alternatives of closed back good sounding headphones alternatives that don't mean;-

a/ you have to a look like a tw*t
b/ you have zero individuality
c/ want to be a drug dealer or gangsta
d/ don't have to replace your headphones every year or so
e/ don't support a gigantic money making all conquering monster of a marketing company
f/ accept second class 'reasonable or adequate' sound all in the name of perceived fashion, peer pressure or vanity

I don't know if this is satirical humour or genuine audiophile elitism... but I'm I think it's the latter.

Agree with god-bluff.. I bet my "tiny" XBA-Z5 in-ears BEAT the BEATS , gobs of details and inner-resolution, controlled bass, metal constructed housing, and whoa SPEAKER-LIKE soundstaging, almost like live (Yeah professional speakers not ****ty beats pills)

Beats made of plastic and some metal parts to add weight, i've read many times ago an article that beats costs like $20 to make LOL

Just good old fashioned common sense

I'm no 'audiophile' I doubt there are many on here that know the true meaning of the word let alone qualify.  I just love music. Headphones are just the means to get that sound into my ears( which are distinctly un-golden in coloration) my head and soul

I also have a penchant for good cheap headphones and mildly eccentic behavior with a passion of non conformity. This possible explains some of my loathing for 'icons' of popular culture like Beats.

One thing is ladies notice the beats. I learned that in college.

So maybe some of those Beats wearers have grados and beyers and sennys etc at home

but want to increase odds at scoring

By the way bloodyhelljesuschristalmightywhatinthenameofallthatisholytyouhavetobepullingmyflippingleg have i read this right but did you let your Amperiors go for a pair of Beat?.

TRhe sennheisers are headphones that you buy to last you for the rest of your life and if they are anything like their higher impedence brothers have the potential to get better and better almost infinately with the sauce source you feed them (maybe the 32ohm don't scale as well as 70s,don't know).

They are an absolute copper bottomed classic that no headphone fan should pass on the chance to own and should never ever think of selling. All IMVHO as usual

HD800's cost less than $80 to make, until last year they were $1500+?

But everyone here on Head Fi loves Sennheiser right?

Opinion, perception.

Yours is not the only one, and maybe not the right one.

Ponder.

What about the development costs and expense of manufacturer in europe. Seems cheap

Having said that Beyerdynamic don't charge a premium for being 'Hand made in Germany'

where can I get the info regarding the cost? holding my 800S and closely inspecting them I see more than $80 total cost, and that isn't even taking into account research and development costs. Tooling and parts sourcing. Assembly, calibration, testing, packaging and distribution.

Ponder? how about some fact. and yes I do agree that the cost is more that it should be, but $80?

Sony and sennheiser can't compared to lowly beats, senns like HD800 are hand-made in Germany, my XBA.Z5 and Big-cand MDR-Z7 made in japan... this speaks for the quality and the senns and both of my sonys are tought built to last (yes sony has also made goofs and bad HPs)

last you for the rest of your life

Not when the cable is about to get severed with the sharp edges of the headband.

They can't be that good

-better isolation
-I can actually hear bass on the bus
-doesn't have a stupid cable configuation (thick + thin cable)
-accepts any 3.5mm cable
