Interesting about your Grados...I can't recall many other comments like this. Usually, some folks won't like the Grado sound but quality/customer support issues don't seem to hit the complaint radar often.

My experience with Grado is limited to the SR60...which I bought at a local audio shop after listening to everything in the SR lineup. I paid the full retail price of $79. I think I've done that for one other set of cans -- the Oppo-PM3s.

A side note on the customer support, having been a steady customer of the audio shop I bought them from, I'm highly confident that they would have handed me a new pair on the spot if that happened with my Grados.

I've owned the SR60s for several years now and they still get their share of listening time. I would rather own them in a heartBeats than the Solo2s at $75. The are truly an engaging set of cans for the $$ and if I'm listening to certain types of music, they still amaze me for the price. I've listened to many Beats cans and have yet to be able to say that about any of them. I have found more engaging cans for my listening preferences at all product levels for less money.

I bought them mail order and they were shipped from the USA to the U.K. So I guess some leeway can be given but on the other hand I broke 3 pair of Beats and got them replaced for free no questions asked.

I am sorry to hear that Grado treated you poorly. I have not heard many cases of poor customer service from them. I currently own three pairs of Grado's the 225i's, RS1i's and I Grado's. I have never had an issue with any of them. I am not a fan of any one brand over another only which ones I find pleasurable to listen to, as evidenced in my profile.
I am sure if Beats fail they will step up to the plate, they have very deep pockets. Not that should matter the customer should always be taken care of. I am disappointed with Grado's treatment of you. Maybe we should start a new post on Grado's customer support.

We should not beat up on people who love the Beats sound and mystique. Everyone has a certain type of sound signature in the headphones they prefer. Everyone has differences in their hearing with some frequencies problematic. Beats truly can be appreciated by those who have intolerance in their hearing for controlled accurate bass, mid's and high's. If you enjoy music with only one or two bass notes why would you consider anything else. Besides they make a statement that you stand out from the crowd and are thoughtful individual.

Sarcasm notwithstanding, even though I gave the Solo2s to my son, I'll still give him Schiit for his listening preferences! :basshead:

Truthfully we all have preferences in what we enjoy in a headphones sound. The Beats fans I am sure truly love the sound of their cans and feel the premium price is worth it. To some style is of the upmost importance maybe surpassing performance. But that is the individuals choice and not to be dismissed or knocked. We all have a preference in headphones, we should respect the Beats culture they did play a part in the resurgence of the headphone industry.

Yep, gotta say that my son liked them so much, he doubled down -- buying a wireless pair of Solo 3s on his own for $300! Makes me cringe when I think of the headphones he could've gotten....Kids these days! ;)

Oh the other hand, I just emailed Grado asking if I could buy replacement gimbels for a vintage pair of SR60's that I had bought with a blown driver and am putting a set of SR80's cups and drivers on. They shipped me a pair for free.

That is great customer service.

Just so everybody knows I have no Beats bias, I demo'd the Studio and Beats Pro and both have terrible sound signatures -- even the bass doesn't sound that good on either one, especially the Pro, though the Studio wasn't terrible with EDM even if all the frequencies sounded off overall.

I do genuinely think a completely redesigned Studio 3.0 could sound excellent if it takes the Solo3 sound signature and puts it into an over-ear design with a little more refinement.

I believe the Beats Pro can do balanced audio with a custom cable. Any headphone that has a single-sided cable cannot.

Edit: I forgot that both jacks share the same ground, so you're right.

BeatsX are eerily very balanced. It's not incredible audio but there's no unnecessary emphasis on any frequencies, and I doubt any audiophile could fault them. They sound as good as $150-$200 consumer IEMs (Monoprice triple/quad driver I'm sure sound better).

Well, they may sound balanced, but that's not what balanced audio means. So an audiophile can fault them if it's based on this factor alone. Then again, they're wireless so balanced audio is kinda irrelevant.
