That's easy (as the purchase was this month) -- a used pair of Denon AHD-750's.

Great cans (major step up in SQ from Grado SR60's, and amazingly comfortable) -- will be looking for a pair of 950's sometime in the next couple months.

edit: headroom told me about beyer 250-80's so I bought those locally at the same time I discovered head-fi (from a link on headroom I believe)

After reading as many posts as possible;

edit: after 2 weeks

Decided to forego my usual upgraditis and spend less total.

lemmesee.....
Before I found Head-Fi I had specially modded Grado SR-200s, 2 pair of Sennheiser HD-580s, Sony CD-3000s, several pair of Sony 7506's, Beyer DT-250-80s, a couple pair of off brand electrostatics, OBH-11SE headamp, buncha different interconnects, scads of other lesser headphones, earphones, etc... but I didn't get serious about headphones until I came here to Head-Fi.

My first purchase after finding Head-Fi was a pair of AKG-K501s and I still love them! Then came the AKG-K1000s, AKG/SAC K-1000 headamp, Senn HD-600, Cardas cable, more interconnects, my beloved HeadRoom MAX, and on and on... Hang on to your wallets friends!!!

In the two-and-a-half months since coming here:
Senn. HD-497's
ATH-EM7's
AKG K-501's (so far my favorite of anything I've heard)

Not to mention:
Sony MZ-NE410 (I know it's not popular but I like it)
IMP-350
CMoy amp
MINT amp

Before Head-Fi, nothing but stock phones.

before coming:
Sony MDR-V500craps

within a week after joining
HP170's
CMOY handbuilt

post week 1 (right now):
DT770's are next (to pair with the cmoy)
MINT/META42 amp (anything with crossfeed!)
thinking about DT-250-80
possibly a Jukebox Zen

I don't think I remember the answer to the question. Possibly the X-Can v2 or Headroom Supreme. Probably something else entirely. Once I got started, things were happening fast for awhile

This place is awesome, it started at exactly the same time I started becoming obsessed with headphones. I forget why exactly, I think it was a buget issue, I couldn't afford speakers anymore.

Less than a month after I came here, I got a pair of HD600s from Jan Meier (he is the man by the way). They've been a dream ever since.

Less than a month after that, I got the OBH-11SE from some guy in Sweden or something far away like that for $200, not bad considering it included a pair of Grado SR-60s and some $50 interconnects.

Before I came to Head-Fi, all that I had ever used was the CHEAPO headphones that had come with my Sony discman, so this place has certainly been an eyeopener.

And then most recently, it's been the Etymotic ER-6's which I also love.

As far as the future goes, I want a pair of kick-ass closed phones, so I'll probably be placing another order with Jan Meier for a pair of Beyer's, haven't decided on the model yet, although a pair of ER-4's might become a reality before then, I love my iPod.

i'm still new, so plenty of time for the list to grow.
had everything but the shure e2's and e5's prior to coming here, and there's too much on the "to do" list to even mention...

at least g/f is still in that "understanding" phase: she just nods, smiles, and thinks to herself "he's gone screaming over the edge...how many headphones can one person possibly need?!?!"

little does she know....<evil laugh>
