Before I tear out any more of my hair, can anyone give me (or point to) a step-by-step guide to streaming music over a LAN from an external drive on a Windows 10 laptop (MS Surface Pro 3) to my LG V30? I've tried all sorts of ways, but can't get it to work.

Thanks.

First you should install a upnp media server like Servio or Asset UPNP and then on UAPP select the UPNP/DLNA servers from the left slide out panel. It should list the UPNP server running on your windows 10 laptop and list the media therein.

You can connect to SMB / Windows share within UAPP and then browse from within the app. Works really well. You may need authentication credentials to your share. I have a NAS which I connect to which has all of my music files. No need to install any DNLA if you already have some shares.

There is also a built-in DLNA server in Windows 10, but it has to be enabled in the Classic Control Panel.

I have never used it so don't know if it's any good, certainly AssetUPnP is excellent however, but not free.

I'm sure I tried that a few years ago and it worked up to a point (it only seemed to 'see' a limited number of files). I couldn't get it to work recently though, for some reason.

I'll have a go at that, thanks.

It is on your phone's Smart Settings (usually on the General tab). Tell it to open UAPP when Bluetooth device is connected.

I have spent the last half an hour scouring for these settings to no avail. Why oh why UAPP cannot just have a menu for "Resume playback upon connection (sub menu : Bluetooth, usb, line out, etc)" is beyond me. Neutron and Poweramp manage to perfectly.. 🤷‍♂️

Haven't gone all the way through this thread but does anyone know why album art is extremely blurry when streaming via DLNA?

I am guessing it depends on the server settings on the DLNA for cover art.. please check that.
