Anyone know if UAPP supports 8x unfold of MQA in DX300 yet?
Neither uapp itself not the dx300 thinks so, so it's probably not supported.Anyone know if UAPP supports 8x unfold of MQA in DX300 yet?
Hello, any chance to disable the 1st software MQA unfolding on the UAPP?
My iDSD Diablo works as a renderer only with UAPP but it can make a full hardware decoding. Thanks.
Unfortunately UAPP doesn't have a setting to disable the software decoder, at least not to my knowledge.
UAPP sends a USB HID command to the DAC to query its MQA support, and uses that to determine whether to perform first unfold. This works perfectly on my MQA USB DAC as well as another non-MQA I had for a while. But it would appear that the iDSD doesn't respond correctly to this query.
I would write to the Dev (use the About screen). It is possible that he can simply add the iDSD to his list of known DACs.
That said, I think there SHOULD be a setting to manually disable the software decoder.
I see. Yeah that's stupid.MQA is at fault for the option not existing...

"Thank you for contacting us. That is what should automatically happen since UAPP should detect if a USB DAC is a MQA decoder."
So it is not happening with Diablo...
P.S. The source (digital transport for Diablo) is sony nw-a105 DAP on Android 9.
I too have repeatedly complained about the millions of 16/44 Masters on Tidal (mostly from Warner) which do not contain any origami and thus do not represent any improved SQ. But those who strive to avoid MQA should have no problem with those tracks.
Yeah, I asked ifi audio. We'll see.I agree, it should happen automatically, but what when it doesn't? He didn't have an answer to that? Be nice to have a technical request to forward to iDSD.
Based on what you’ve observed, do you think the Warner and other 16/44 Master files would sound them same whether played with or without MQA output enabled since there is no unfolding going on? That’s one of my takeaways from what you’ve shared, just checking if that’s the case if you might know.
Since my original complaints about these, I've performed some comparisons to CDs I own of the same albums. And there were definitely differences, both audibly and in the actual files. I am happy to share a bit more, just not today. And I think it is safer and more appropriate for the Tidal Masters & MQA Thread.
Cool - I will hop over there. I guess my question was unclear, I’m not doubting the files have been modified, I’m just wondering if an mqa decoder or renderer would change the playback sound of the file.
