Unique Melody Remold Impressions Thread

Sorry to hear about everyone's negative experiences with AmpCity.. I am still loving my Merlin and it really is unfortunate that people in the UK are starting to avoid UM products for their customer service issues.

I would like to point out that my experience with Stephen from custom-iem has been nothing short of spectacular. Replies always came within 24 hours and even 6 months after I received my Merlin, Stephen has maintained the same excellent customer service whenever I contacted him.

Hopefully UM can repair their image.

was tossing up between merlins and mg6pros 3 weeks ago.

just want to shout out thanks for the heads up

mg6pros are due this monday. who knows where the merlins might have been.

<- one sale lost from this thread alone. just being honest, this kind of stuff is rubbish and they should be aware they are losing customers over this.

I hope you made the right choice and according to this review: http://www.head-fi.org/t/596839/review-unique-melody-merlin-future-sonics-mg6pro, there are some issues with his mg6pro.  I'm not saying that his review is absolute but he is a rare person who owns both the Merlin and the mg6pro.

Good luck with yours and hope it works out for you.

Finally!

The SE530x4s have turned up. Colours are correct (though the yellow is a little smokey), fit is perfect and the very quick listen I had in my office left me in audio heaven.

It's been a very long saga and I'd be hard pressed to recommend UM due to their long wait times, or AmpCity for their poor customer service (they did send me a spare cable as a way of apologising which I do appreciate though), but the end product is very, very good. The single driver upgrade has made a pleasant difference to the overall sound of the IEMs, particularly around the mid/high end which is noticeably more detailed.

I'll post pics of them and the frequency response graphs at some point over the weekend (due to the UM error where they failed to upgrade the drivers the first time around I have graphs for the SE530 reshell and the SE530x4 to compare).

Were they worth the wait? Hard to say. 4 1/2 months is crazy. If I'd have known it would be that long I would have tried another company or just got some Westone 4R's. But now that I have them, I must say I'm very pleased.

Thanks to everyone on this thread for their comments along the way.

Congratulations, you got them back a day (not including the weekend) before mine are due! So it's not always a case of the grass is greener.  I hear you on the wait side.  If I'd have known I'd have been doing the whole refit/resend thing I might well of bitten the price difference and gone with either acs or minerva over here, but that's hindsight talking.

Anyway good luck with them and hope nothing else goes wrong!

Cheers

So are people having all this trouble through Amp City, or is it not an isolated problem?

Looking through the thread, it seems as though the UM lab has been responsible for a lot of careless mistakes, customer service issues and delays.

Well, I won't hold my breath...my impressions have been sent off to UM and my guy here in Saigon assures me that everything will go smoothly...let's see what happens, eh?

I'll put in a strong recommendation for Dream Earz ($150)- quick service, very responsive, and the shells are twice as thick so way durable (you can take a look at my profile pic- if you blow it up, you'll really see)

I think I was the only one who was complaining in the 1964 Ears thread, and that wasn't really a customer service issue. If anything Anastasia was a wonder to deal with while we worked out any issues.

Also, stay away from Kozee.

well, judging by UMLab holding my 3 driver for 2 weeks now and not saying anything about completion time... (via ciem.com). (re: UMLab move on their FB page)... So now is probably not a great time to go with UMLab? 'i haven't heard anything from umlab, they're very busy with backorder after the move, I'll let you know as soon as I hear something, but it's best not to rush them so they don't mess anything up' (not a verbatim quote, but pretty close) is not a response I want to hear when I ask whether UMLab received my IEMs and when can I expect my IEMs that UMLab did not produce to the order specs twice (making the same mistake). At least Stephen refunded my Mage that I sent in along with my 3 driver (for a refund, not reshell)....

1964 sounds interesting, they say " Tuning earpiece to match original Frequency/Phase response" (kozee say the same. Whether either of them really do that - who knows)
I'm pretty sure most other companies do not do that. In fact, most people say to expect something different from a UM reshell (and that's what happened to my sm3v1 to a custom sm3).

I had a JH10X3 reshelled by 1964 Ears and have a few pictures of the finished product in my profile.

I can definitely vouch for build quality from them.

My order form for re-fitting my Merlins is odd. I'm getting Carbon Faceplates, but the Chinese characters beside the English "CF" are the exact same as the ones beside "Smoked Black". They are asking me to ship to Australia, but it seems like a pretty major problem if they forget to add my Carbon Faceplates AGAIN. Thoughts?

Can you post a picture of those chinese characters?
