I'm currently using a Yamaha RX-V490 to power my DT880/600. I'm rather impressed by the quality I'm getting from it and am wondering if I need a tube amp. First of all, what volume should my sound card be set at or the best amplification. I've got it at 25% right now.
Second, how much will I benefit from a tube amp. I realize a receiver isn't meant for headphones and I'm willing to upgrade if it makes a difference...but is it worth $300?
Third...assuming I buy an amp, what will pair best with it in my price range. I'm leaning toward the Darkvoice 336SE as its $300 shipped. I'd be willing to replace the stock tubes...I have a giant box of them or can buy some if I don't have the right ones. The other models I'm looking at are Little Dot mk III, or IV and the Valhalla. I'm trying to keep it at $300 or below, so the DV is at the top of the list and I've heard the synergy is good...are there any others I should consider that I've missed?
Anyway, I'm loving these headphones so far.
