Are you supposed to remove the plastic part on the back of the LCD-2 pads?

I have a pair of the T20RP MK II headphones that I purchased from B&H Photo a few weeks back.  When you take off the ear pads and then the 4 screws holding the driver baffle into place, you can then look at the driver.  The part # on the T20RP MK II is the same part number that is on my T50RP headphones that I purchased a few months back.

Thanks for your e-mail. You can definitely purchase these through any authorized Fostex dealer in the USA. Some prime examples would be dealers such as Guitar Center, Sweetwater Sound, Sam Ash Music or Full Compass Systems. Also below is the correct part # to use when ordering. If you have further questions please let me know.

Part #: 1471300500

If you look at the above text that I pulled from a e-mail message from the Fostex distributor for the U.S., you can send them a request and ask if part # 1471300500 is a universal part # for the drivers in the T50RP and T20RP MK II.  Your answer from them should be a "Yes".

I think we're on the same track now, actually going to buy a pair of Thunderpants and then LCD-2 after that. :)

I think you'll be moving onto some great options for listening.  After all, we only have one life.  Live it to the fullest, and don't settle for mediocre music or music reproduction.

Enjoy!

The LCD-2 pads (at least the vegan ones) are actually a bit big and I find leaving the plastic ring inside helps stretch them out fully and keep their form, as well as holding them onto the wooden baffle lip more securely. Can't help thinking it could possibly rattle against the baffle, but I haven't noticed it.

Bluemonkeyflyer did some tests, and they might not be identical. Check the following two links out: 1 2

Overall, though, they seem similar, but BMF claimed they each require a different modding approach.

While I really like my leather ones, would be interested in your impressions on the vegan ones, in case I ever need to replace mine.
Also any photos?
Thanks

I applied some posts in the other Fostex T50RP thread where the drivers of my T20RP MK II headphones had the same driver backing / dampening material.  The white material looked exactly the same between the two.  Also, I mentioned it would be great to pick 100 T50RP drivers and pull aside and see if there were any visible physical differences between any of them.

Ideally, it would be best to take proper measurements of both headphones with the modifications applied and see how close the frequencies spec out on the charts when directly compared.

I think the T20RP MK II and T50RP argument can now end.  B&H Photo appears to have sufficient stock of the T50RP headphones again for $74.00 and free UPS Ground shipping.  Meanwhile, the T20RP MK II sells for $58.## and free shipping.  Spend the extra $15.## and go for the T50RP to ensure you're getting the real deal.

Who wants to pay a 25% price increase for the same drivers?

Just finished my mods on the T20RPs I got from them and they sound identical to my T50s. I'm not seeing any reason to pay more, especially if they're to be modded.

You've essentially came to the same conclusion that I have.  The sound is -- or, appeared spot on between the two different models.  However, for those who have the mysterious belief that the 50 is still more viable over the 20, then head back to B&H Photo where the prices are now normalized once again.  In time, we'll see the other vendors adjust their prices accordingly.  Some guy is selling his for $149 on Amazon.  I wonder at what point of his headphones not selling will he realize that his price is at too much of a premium?

I will hopefully get around to this when I am reunited with my Thunderpants at the end of the week. I also have the Beyer gel pads and used to have the O2, so we can have a little pad shootout :)

Looking forward to it.

Mine originally shipped with the O2 pads and while I loved them they were crushed down in ~ 6 months which I felt was not cool for $155 pads.
The vegan LCD-2 pads seem like a very interesting option and might be a bit comfier. I am curious as to whether they isolate as well as the leather.

Thanks
