You can argue headrooms qualifications all you like but they are definitely an informed opinion and someone I would trust more than some unknown reviewer. Furthermore, what about the numerous owners with 200+ hours burn in that still feel they are sibilant? What about the owners that like the Ultrasones and still admit they are sibilant? You act as if there is this landslide of public opinion that the Ultrasones are perfect.

Biggest on the planet, doing them a favor .... what are you talking about?

One heapdhone that change more than the 701? I could mention a few, but just will mention the two that are related to this discussion, both PROLines, the 2500 and the 750, believe it or not...that is a fact...period, I will not argue more about that subject, if you want to believe it, good, if not, to me is completelly irrelevant. Others had experieced these same changes, and just becasue you refuse to believe it, that will not make more or less truthful...
wink.gif

BTW Whom are those numerous owners that believe that they are sibilant after the burn in??? And whom are those numerous owners that like the Ultrasone sound and admit they are sibilant? IMO there are not even numerous owners in head-fi yet, but IIRC are you, an another couple of fellows...IMO if someone that likes sibilance is a masochist, sibilance is not a pleasant effect to enjoy at all, even though, in some recordings you have no other choice, and if you have a good pair of heapdhones, you will hear it...

They are not perfect, and for the last time, I sold mine, if they were perfect, I still would owned them, but simply I prefer the Editions to the PROLines by a good margin, but the sibilance was not the reson why I sold them, that is for sure...As any heapdhone, they are far from being perfect, but I do consider others being a lot more distant from that qualification, and they are considered by many as such.
confused.gif

I never argued about the Headroom qualifications, where did I said that? Please do not change what I said OK? I said that many members had questioned the rating system they have, and that I do not agree in all their opinions, that is different...

I am hoping that all involved here can take a step back.
We don't need to get personal, or to respond personally.
One way to do this is to remember what we all already know, that what we hear, especially regarding subtle qualities, is our subjective experience and that its nice to report that in neutral terms allowing the space for others to have a different subjective experience.

Sometimes there can be a lot of agreement about subjective experience, but even then its not exactly the same (it only takes a little brain damage to prove this point). Our rigs can be high quality, maybe almost the same (which they are usually not), but only a slight change, such as an interconnect, can yield a discernable difference in something as subtle as levels of brightness, sibilance, etc.

If we can keep it neutral then everyone can stay, and play, and keep it a happy little place where information can flow freely.

If not, please give me a minute to go get some marshmellows.

you come off as adament here as you do in all your bombastic postings on the glories of singlepower amps. i say bombastic because for months and months anytime anyone asked about anything to do with an amp you just had to jump in with the fan-boy babbling despite it having nothing to do with the op's question or the general bent of the thread. now that is what i call nonsense.

just because you don't have the ears to hear something doesn't mean its the emporer's new bow-tie.

anyway, i am very sorry to see your limited vision has invaded this thread, and even sorrier to see that some very nice folks are allowing you to bait them, as others have elsewhere. but i am sure they will also learn to ignore you, as others have elsewhere.

cheers mate.

What are you talking about?!?!? I, for one, have appreciated any insight sacd lover has brought about the Singlepower amp line. That may be because I also own a SP; however, I feel the wealth of information he shares is useful to many more than just me.

What is it about Ultrasone lovers (or Ultrasonistas or whatever nickname they've given themselves) that gives any thread on their beloved headphones a "us versus them" mentality. The folks who don't absolutely love the Ultrasone line and swear by them are not against you. Trust me on that.

Since when is an expressed opinion contrary to the (limited) masses such a bad thing? Why not point out the differences that one hears in order to inform others? Why not share an opposing view? Why should anyone's opinion be more "right" than that of anyone else?

Ciao,

We do not belive that everybody that do not share our same opinions, are enemies, and I have nothing against SACDlover at all, all the opposite, there is room for all opinions, and we believe that everybody is entitled to an informed opinion, and to express it, of course. But I think also that you, at least, should have enough elements to form it correctly, and then, emit your judgenment with more weight.
An unburned heapdhone, is not enough to come to those conclusions he is arriving, why? Very simple, we all had experienced the same sound he is listening now, and we are trying to convince him to give them time enough to show the real sound, it will chage its sound, but if after that, the hepadhone is still not his cup of tea, OK so be it, it is not the promised heapdhone God sent us, but give it the required time at least...Please!!! Are we asking too much?

I do not consider his even an opposed view, I consider his a view that is limited by the sound of an unburned heapdhone...at least that was how it sounded to me out of the box, and even the next week...

I'm collecting reviews, both good and bad. If you know of any I can add, let me know and I'll add them to this post like I did with the binaural thread. Any Ultrasone product line, and any reviews, including ones from here at head-fi are good candidates. If you have a capsule summary or a head-fi review, right click on the post number and select save link location or some such and paste that into a post or a PM to me and I'll add it here.

This will save newcomers a ton of search engine frustration, and that was the main motivation behind doing this.
There are no "fake" reviews here.

Online Magazine and eZine "Formal" Reviews:
These have the potential to suffer from the reviewer not having a burned-in pair (as was clearly the case with the Electronic Musician review, for instance, where Cathy Kelly, CEO of UltrasoneUSA later sent the reviewer a burned-in pair and he updated his evaluation as a result). So, I'd take these with a certain grain of salt, as they say... but it is still nice to see so many reviews gathered together in one place, isn't it! I suggest you apply a tactic of reading only the reviews of the headphones you are immediately interested in - otherwise, you may get very bloodshot eyes!!!

These often have at least the component of being a little more accurate - or at least more valid - in that the owner has usually owned them for a while and they are most likely reviewing a burned-in pair, unlike with the magazine reviews, where you cannot know if that is the case.

I think I am the only one that have said I got more sibilance now then before lol.

As for burn in I don´t have the AKG 701 but DT 770 and AKG 240, A900 did not chage much. My 750 is totally transformed several times already so you should take our words for it that it do change. Even when you have run them with pink noise for over 150 hours

I just wanted to add a couple more comments to this thread. Hopefully someone will find them helpful or informative.

I bought a pair of 2500's used off of spacemanspliff a week ago. In all honesty, I kicked myself at first for purchasing them and actually planned on selling them before I even received them.

Anyway, I got them in the mail and decided to try them just for my own peace of mind. At first I thought, "Eh, these are alright," and kept listening. 15 minutes later I was groovin' with 'em. Now, several days after first listen, I'm pretty much in love. Yes, I can hear where some posters are getting their complaints from, but there are other points they make that boggle my mind. It's all in the ear, I guess
wink.gif

PS- Sov, haven't searched yet, but was wondering if you'd done a comparo between your Edition 9 and the 2500 you had.

-edit- I've also only listened to the 2500's with my still burning in Tomahawk and imodded ipod. my presonus central station should be here tomorrow

And at this moment the thing that is driving me even more crazy than some of the things I read here is my bird, screaming in my right ear as he always seems to enjoy doing when it is tuesday and I have my day off AAARRRGGGHHH

I have tried to save this thread a couple of times but the bickering seems more fun to some I guess.
And Sacd, you haven't tried the burn-in with these cans yourself so wait and see for yourself. All the other cans you have mentioned that didn't have it also didn't have a titanium driver. I think that makes the world of a difference. But enough said and probably too much already. First I am gonna flush my bird through the toilet

I for one have always enjoyed reading your pleasant posts. They're very refreshing compared to Sovkiller's, similarly to the K701 vs. the 2500.

Just a little joke! Sov, I know you won't be angry at me. I'll send you some free caps if you are.
biggrin.gif

I've basically concluded that the 2500 isn't for me. This doesn't mean it's a bad-sounding headphone. To me, it has strengths and weaknesses much like any other headphone I've heard.

One last thing I might be able to contribute, if people are interested. For some reason, the Proline 2500 and 750 are priced relatively low locally. I bought the 2500 on sale for US$210 last month. It's no longer on sale, but the regular price now is only US$242.

I can go purchase another 2500 and compare it to the one that has over 300 hours of burn-in. This isn't meant to be a definitive answer to the burn-in question, just one small real-world experiment.

After the comparison, I will sell both headphones for the price I paid.

It could be that they are just not for you. The same goes for everyone. I am cool with that. We all have different preferences.
It would be interesting though if you would be willing to compare the fully burned-in pair to the not burned in one just for the experiment.
And that sure is a good price! List price here in Holland is 299. I got lucky I could buy them for 185 euros thanx to Dex.

Hey Girll,
I'm just glad it's your bird that's annoying you...

Just imagine if it was your cat and you made an awkward translation...

(although your "cat"

screaming in your ear would be a bit strange to read offcourse...)

I love your posts sometimes!

P.s. I only like the looks of the Prolines when you wear them, your eyes really brings them out. (is that the right translation by the way..?
