not IEM related but music related so here goes ….

A funny things happened on vacation in NYC yesterday. Was walking through SoHo with two of my kids and passed a guy carrying a guitar in nyc and thought to myself, must be tough being a street musician here. So anyway I get to window shopping then notice my son taking a picture of a couple. And I thought awww that’s cute. Then I realized it wasn’t a couple at all. It was my daughter and the street musician dude! And the Protective Dad in me thought what the heck, and approached .. and heard my daughter saying she tried to enter the lottery for his show, and he replied in a charming British accent that he was only given one ticket for him mum. As he left, I was a bit confused but also alarmed as my daughter was now gasping and walking as if her knees had turned to jello. She then explained to this old fuddy duddy that the street musician was Matty Healey, the lead singer of the 1975, one of the biggest rock bands on the planet, who are playing on Saturday Night Live tonight!
At first I felt embarrassed, but then I thought to myself that if mom had seen Axl Rose walking down the street she probably would have clutched her purse and scooted along. 262E7409-0754-490E-B51F-6C78C21881D2.jpeg

Great story! And...

Not true! I like it!

You would preferred it if it was a LP inside?

Oh that's an easy decision for me. Preferences aside, It seems that the Atom modules can bring the Rn6 closer to the Xe6 if you want, but not so much the other way around. Also, there'll only be 300 of the Rn6, making it more scarce in case you ever decide to sell it. And you'd save $600.
Hoping this is the case! Would love to have the ability to get near the Xe6’s presentation with Rn6 but also dial it back some as well. I know the ATOM XS modules don’t make massive changes (at least, they aren’t huge to my ears with Ne4) but I do like the versatility they provide.

If you're able to mess with the insertion depth on the universal's, you can further attenuate and tweak the kinetic bass to preference. Closer/deeper giving a warmer and more volumetric bass presentation, etc. Lots of measurable tweaking options before you even get to the chain/source.

I’ve noticed this with Ne4. They’re the only IEM I own that I regularly “tip roll.” I switch between Crystals, AET07 and SpiralDots. Each provides a good seal but as you said it’s more so about the depth of insertion allowed by the tip shape / geometry and stem length that changes the sound profile. In combination with the ATOM modules there’s a lot of tweak-ability to the kinetic bass presentation. Love it.

Switching gears from the Custom Art Fibae 5 over to the FatFreq Maestro SE this morning.

First things first I think my biggest takeaway from the last two weeks (beginning with CanJam) is that the Luxury & Precision LP6 may be the single greatest audio product I've ever experienced...full stop. I've auditioned about a dozen IEMs through it right now and I'll be damned if every session doesn't leave me a little more enfatuated with the seductive, delicate yet ballsy, transparent yet full bodied, highly technical yet tonally perfect sound that comes out of this little gold brick. This morning I took @audionewbi's advice and connected the 1/4" inch adapter and have been using it, along with a 3.5 cable, all morning. Snapshot impressions are that the sound does indeed seem to be a little less aggressive, a little more effortless...more time with some more IEMs will be needed to say for sure but I like what I hear so far. Using the 1/4" connector if nothing else is a decent way to manage the steep power curve of the LP6. I will say that Maestro SE's stock cable...with it's rather elongated adapter system becomes a little unwieldy in this situation, as can be seen in the photo.

The Maestro SE is a fantastic IEM. Coming from the Fibae 5- which was more even-keeled in its midrange focus and which had bass & treble more in a supporting role--. the Maestro SE has a much more prominent bass emphasis, with the lows skewed towards the sub-bass. Mid-bass is present but nowhere near prominent. On the Fibae 5 the sound is more full bodied on the whole within the mids and the vocal range was more level-- on the MSE the top half of the FR is more skewed a little towards the upper mids and highs-- female vocals are a lot more prominent, and male vocals are a touch recessed. I've been enjoying the MSE with a variety of music-- Led Zeppelin, PM Dawn, Matthew Herbert, CCR, Groove Armada, Mumford & Sons-- and it hasn't hit any real false notes for me, though my personal preferences are more along the lines of a little more meat in the mid-bass and forwardness in the lower mid region. The Maestro SE to me, FR wise, reminds me a good deal of the IER Z1R and as such I'm tempted to say that I could full well get used to the MSE as an all rounder however given my preferences and the other IEMs at my disposal it would likely fall into the category of specialist for those times where I may want more of a female vocal emphasis or a good dose of top end air and clarity to go along with the big bass. A solid rec from me overall-- even within the highly competitive price bracket it falls into. I would absolutely love to see a collab between FatFreq and Elysian. FatFreq bass combined with Elysian mids & highs...would be something.
Probably not a good question for you since you are 100% IEM/DAP. But I am wondering if someone can have the same level of R2R enjoyment with much less at the cost of larger size, say a desktop R2R DAC/AMP at the sound quality level of LP6 or LP6 TI. What will be the lowest budget pick for those R2R desktop choice.

Did she try introducing you to their music? As a child of the Eighties, I quite like them! :relaxed:

Actually do like quite a few of their songs like Somebody Else and UGH! But my daughters consumes a lot of their music on YouTube whereas I use one of the high res sites like Tidal or Qobuz. They use instagram and social media sites and are probably more visually attuned

I remember one time watching a concert after a football game of my favorite artist. I swear I had had no prurient interests and was watching for the music, but it is really hard convincing Mrs. MaggotBrain is such when Anitta looks like this:

And Aure is discontinued:frowning2: Only a few units available.
One of the last ones is mine :beerchug:

Can not say if AüR Aure is good or not, since I havent tried one yet. But the Neon Pro is such a high value punching with big boys, so I have no problem blind buying the Aure also.

Since I attended the Oslo HiFi show today in Norway I got to to test many high end speaker setups, and also a few headphones.
Had with me the Neon Pro as a reference since its portable and similar in amount of detail and tonality to the ZMF Verite I own.
Had my DAP with me and checked the same tracks on the Neon Pro after testing speakers and gear costing up into the ++ $100k, unbelievable how good value IEMs is.

The newest edition of Focal Utopia is the best Focal headphone I have tried so far, but for me personally I prefer the ZMF house sound. What I can say is that I preferred the Neon pro over Utopia Would it have changed at home, not sure but I doubt it. Anyway enough AüR shilling for today, hard to not do it when you like product that much.
