if you are for looking for headphones to use when commuting go for inears..try the dunu titan 1 inears, they are absolute beast of a earphone and sound quality is similar to that of inears triple the price.

I was considering the Titans to use when commuting, but then I read in some places that because of their design, they don't isolate that well.. I am on the bus two hours per day, and while I adore my Pro80, they simply didn't isolate well enough to be used on safe volume settings.

I've also been considering buying another pair and trying to mod them for even more isolation, but I have no idea how that would turn out. I was thinking about either adding more isolation to the existing headphones, or maybe taking the drivers and putting them in a housing like the Takstar EP-100 or something, but I guess someone with more knowledge than me can tell me if that's a really bad idea or not.. :)

My thinking was that there are plenty of over ear hearing protectors with built in radio, over bluetooth or FM/AM, (generally big, ugly things with an antenna sticking out of it) so I suppose it ought to be possible to combine that idea with a better quality headphone, resulting in a killer over ear commuter headphone..

Has anyone tried something similar? Is it a feasible idea at all?

is it bad i havent touched my grado's since i got the hsr1000's? xD

Hi ! may i ask you which Grado model do you have and what amp do you use to drive the hsr1000 ?

And to answer your question i think it is more telling than bad.
I remember a very old thread about Grado drivers being quite cheap. If this is true given the very good sound of Grado HPs, clearly cheap does not imply necessarily bad.  As i think that the sound is mostly determined by the drivers it should be possible to build excellent HPs for not much money.
And the hsr1000 could be one case.
Thanks for your opinion.  Regards,  gino

P.S. if they would build them circular instead of oval that would be something spectacular ... something like the new Beyerdynamic

The ear cups MUST be circular ... to be beautiful

Hi thanks a lot for the very valuable reply.  May i ask you about the amp you use ?
I have now almost all the HPs mentioned in the thread, Gemini included still in the box
so i am extremely interested about a good way to drive them and i guess you have already found a very good match ?

Thanks again.  The Fiio e10k is good ... i have an older version of this amp. But it relies on usb port for power.
I would try a usb power supply like this one here ...
Or use an amp with independent power supply and possibly more robust.

Good luck with your amp quest then !
kind regards,  gino

Aside from the case, is there any reason to get the Takstar Pro 80 over the Gemini HSR 1000? The Gemini is almost half the price on Amazon but the Takstars seem to be a little more well known.

Everyone says its the same headphone, just different printing on the headphone. The Takstar comes in a super nice box, pretty sure the Gemini doesn't, so depends if you think that much is worth extra.

I got finally my Takstar 2050's. They were delivered in an envelope not in the box. Got the guarantee card cables and the manual. Only paid 36.49$
Shipment took one month. I'm very satisfied with them. The soundstage is awesome.

Played a few videos games(GTAV/Witcher 3/Call Of Duty Ghosts)
Great headphones for the money.
