Interesting, because I bought a cable last month that was advertised for the HD6xx series and when I tried to plug it into the HD580 Jubilee, it was too fat. I'm a little hesitant on buying cables again so that's why I wanted to know what kind of cable the other HD580 Jubilee users are using. I guess I just bought a poorly designed cable if the HD580 is able to use same cables as the other HD6xx series. There is an absolute crapload of replacement cables for the HD580. One of the reasons for this is that the cables will also fit the 600, 650, 6XX and a couple of others.
You can pay as little as $20 and as much as $225 for Cardas at the higher end of the scale and a whopping $400 for the PlusSound X8 you mentioned. The Periapt are a much more reasonable price and I bet that the PlusSounds won't be six times better.
A point to note is the the 6XX series cables only fit the headphone one way. If you have a careful look you'll see that one pin is slightly bigger than the other.
One cable brand that often comes up as really good quality for the price is Hart.
I replaced my HD580 cables with a $50 pair from Amazon because the originals were far too long. Didn't affect the sound in any way at all.
The lower decorative semi-circular piece is different on the HD580 Jubilee compared to the HD650.Interesting, because I bought a cable last month that was advertised for the HD6xx series and when I tried to plug it into the HD580 Jubilee, it was too fat.
Nice. Source for the grills? The Sennheiser HD580s were the first pair of "real" audiophile headphones I ever got back in 2005 I think, I had got the Sennheiser HD457 (crap), and googled the name Sennheiser which led me to this website. After that I got the Sennheiser HD595s and a Pocket Amp V2 as my first amp while I was in college. I was curious how much better the "higher end" Senns could sound. I got a Sennheiser HD580 and a Gilmore Lite delivered within a few days of each other right after I finished college.
That was my first "real" setup.
I got a second pair of 580s at some point and gave my old broken pair of 580s with the 650 drivers to a friend as his first audiophile setup.
Ordered some custom grilles for my 580. Disclosure, some people say that the grilles are a big part of the sound. I have listened too the 580 with no grille and with the 6XX grille, I have listened with the left driver having the original 580 grille and the right driver having no grille and I have heard no difference.
The custom grille's got in yesterday, I like the look they are different. Very happy with my purchase. I snapped some quick picks with the 580 laying on my bed. Sorry for the terrible lighting, I can take more pics with proper lighting and better angles later if anyone is interested.
Nice. Source for the grills?
From the manufacturer: The latest edition of the grilles are no longer spray painted, as the plastic itself is now black. The result is improved bass punch and slam, larger and more even soundstage, smoother upper-midrange tuning, and a less grainy treble.
Sarcasm on / you are so lucky you did not buy the spray painted ones / sarcasm off
