After replacinmg the grilles there is definite improvement in sound. The sound is more "airy" and transparent!
Got a HD 650 cable too. I will post pictures later. Mind you my HD 580 has barely done 250 hours yet.
Boy they are sexy looking now. Most wonderful bang for buck mod!!!

Ok, how did you do THAT!?

Does the grille come apart for spraying? (Mine hasn't arrived yet)

And is that a sprayed 650, or a 600 grille? (the plastic looks like my 650, or have you done something to that too?)

OK, now you NEED to remove the headband paint. It will come off anyway as the band flexes the edge paint wont take the strain. This was what inspired me to 'Darth mod'!

When I stripped the headband with gel, I didn't realize it wasn't totally dry. When I put the metal bands back it, I noticed some of the black paint flake off. So I decided to go ahead and get rid of all the paint! I think the bare metal band looks sexy. When I get my 600 grills, the grills are the only things that are going to have paint on them. Still thinking about the Sennheiser logos. Once I'm done, I should probably send a pic to Sennheiser for an HD700 idea!

So far, I've found a big difference in sound with my 6 year old (thousands of hours use) 580s, after taking away the foam and cleaning them.

yes, pure stainless!!! Very sexy. I don't understand why Sennheiser decided to mask them. I'll be a tease and only post pics when I get my 600 grills and have painted them

Also new to the forum, so I'll need the time to figure out how to attach a photo on this thing!

Davesrose, an idea

Match the stainless steel by spraying the new grilles shiny silver (like the dude earlier did with the red 650 grilles)

Na, the grill is mainly going to be black. Think it would be cool to have the Senn logo on the grill like on my 595s. Maybe I'll spray the logo with metalic silver paint....or white. The brightness in contrast should still give it some killer effects! This will be my weekend project if the grills come this week! Stay tuned for the pics!!!

Depends how the logo looks on the grille. May not look sharp as the holes are pretty big. I would either leave it as is, or go for your own colour. I just thought you liked the stainless steel so much that.....well whatever!

Good luck with it! And post pics!

I'm certainly going to go for some design. We'll see once I get the grills....if the holes wind up being too big, then I guess I can fill em in a little over the designed parts of it. But no so much as to change the sound dynamics. Stay tuned and you'll see the results!

Well As it is new I will wait till paint comes off. I like the look now kinda original resembling HD650. My HD625!!!

I was more interested in the improvement of SQ. I am happy there. Here is a simple test. Close both the grilles with your palms, while you are listening! You can hear the sound closing in and loosing the airy-ness. Now suddenly let go, it returns back. I think better built and metal in the grille has some contribution in openness and airy-ness of the sound too.
HD650 cable is a definite improvement over the stock cable. Build quality is better and more refined trebles. I am still burning the cable in!

And if HD580 is 90-95% of HD600 the modded one should be surely 110% of HD600!!! So "HD625"!!!
