The Sennheiser HD580 Impressions Thread

I don't think ~$40 for the grills and an HD650 cable is all that expensive. Considering some spend many times that on a power cord, I would say it's not bad in the grand scheme of things. Plus, the 580's do look DEAD sexy with the 600 grills.

For spares, usually our distributor do not stock them.

Anyways, these are the prices before labor. The cables are not interchangable.

Grill USD 4.60 each
Cable for HD 600 USD 14.00 each
Cable for HD 650 USD 28.00 each

That is the mail I got from Sennheiser asia. I will be getting them soon I am waiting for this mod!

Tweaking the HD580 does make sense when you consider how robust this headphone is. Throw the HD600 grills and HD650 cable on them and you have what I (and many others) consider a better headphone than the HD600 and pretty close to the HD650. Not to mention that the HD580s with 600 grills look better than the HD600.

Add me to the HD580 lover's list. They are easily the shining point of my little collection. My head-fi addiction started with PX100s, went to KSC75s, AKG K81 DJs, and AT A7000s. I finally got my HD580s second-hand via a trade on these very forums and all the other headphones I listed (short of the PX-100s, which are now my work 'phones) are utterly neglected because of my addiction. Movies, music, TV, gaming. I do everything with them and it excels at them all. Couple my Turtle Beach Micro Advantage USB with my laptop and HD580s, and you've got economical audio bliss.

I too have a set of HD600 grills on the way and am giddy with anticipation for the cosmetic upgrade. Next, I want to swap the cable with a slightly upgraded 1-meter one, as I find the stock cable way too long. If anyone has any recommendations on that end, please let me know.

LOL well i did work there part time once, but yea i did technically walked out with it after i sold the last headset..I was like well no ones gonna use this anymore...

Without even listening to any music, the first thing i noticed was that with these grills is they are at LEAST twice as open as the other plastic ones. Every night when I have the ac on, it would not bother me, but tonight with this mesh thing I can actually hear my ac, and my parents watching tv in the next room. My initial impressions with music playing was that the bass seemed a bit more present yet highly diffused. Instead of hearing deep thumps, I FEEL the air pressure change with every

... I dont think it is plecebo, or if it is, only part of it is my imagination because I listened to the same cds in the same order for like four nights in a row now.

Detail man! Details!

What did you use to remove the paint? Where did you source the grills? If from Sennheiser, how long did you have to wait for them?

I used paint stripping gel that I had laying around from Home Depot. Brush it on, then when it blisters, I used a nylon brush and water to clean it. The grills and cable came from Sennheiser directly over the phone. It took five days shipped including a two day weekend.

Do you find yours more bassy? Bass seems more resonant and seems to "flow" more easily.. I think.
