The Sennheiser HD 25 Series

They sound better than some very good full size 'phones out there. I would say they have a smaller soundstage then most full size cans. (which isn't necessarily a bad thing)
I think size doesnt mean much, look at the sound some IEMs manage to produce.

The only reason one would buy a full sized headphone is for better comfort and a bigger soundstage.

hd25-1 II   or Denon Hd1100

Im freaking torn between the cool looks of the denon's and the sound quality of the hd-25-1 II headphones.

Has anybody here had experience with both of these ?

And would i be losing that much in audio quality in the denons ?

Hello Everybody,

I got those .. they look great and sound great (read usual threads). At first highs sounded a bit agressive to my taste, but it disapeared after one week. depending on where you're from in term of headphones, highs might be surprising (compared to a HD650 for example).

Got mine from adidas at 250$ (cheaper than amazon) : http://www.shopadidas.com free shipping right now and it was a good experience.

As for headphone amp or not ... people never mention what they are listening to! Pop/rock/metal is a different beast than classical !

As an example, on a train, on an iphone 3gs, volume is plenty enough for pop, rock, jazz. For classical, its not enough in slow movements.
In a quiet environment, thereis no worries (in term of sound level) even for classical.

The soundstage, which is the most significant compromise with the HD-25s. My HD-250 Linear phones share the similar balanced, 'studio' type of sound but have a much more spacious sound than the HD-25s and an easier fit with slightly less but still a good amount of isolation.

By the way, the HD-25s were produced from as early as 1989 which shows that a good 20+ year-old design can be more than competitive today.

Anybody know how well the HD-25 II pairs up with a Creative Titanium HD?  The Creative Titanium says it can handle headphones up to 330ohm and they are 70ohm so I don't doubt that there would be no trouble powering them.  I plan on getting them to complement my Grados.

Good choice.  I have the Adidas version and the HF2s, and I'm convinced that if Grado made a closed headphone, it would sound a lot like The HD25-1s.  I still like the Grados more, but a closed portable is very handy to have...

Finally got to hear a pair last week and I've got to say I was very impressed. Great build, light, small and sounded GREAT! For $200, it's harder to find a better closed headphone to recommend. I think I'll put these on my radar for my daughter. She's only 7, but it's never to early to learn about good sound.
