The Official Beyerdynamic T1 Impressions and Discussion Thread

  Hi all,
I'm looking for a pair of headphones to replace my T70's, and I am considering a T1. Previously I had eliminated the T1 from consideration because of price and tonality, (I like warm-ish headphones) but then I learned about the silent revision. My question is: are the late T1's properly warm headphones, like Amiron's or HD600's, or are they still bright-ish, like HE560's?

Late T1 is not warmer than HE-560 based on the ones that I have, both brighter than HD-600 IMO.

Apologies if this is a stupid question but what is a 'late T1'?

I wondered if it's a novel name for the T1g2, or is it an even more recent iteration?

Late T1 usually refers to a SN over 30,XXX IIRC.  Maybe someone who knows the exact period when the drivers were revised will know from what SN will be considered "LATE"

Fascinating ^^^

Thanks for all the clarification. I've decided to just bite the bullet and invest in equipment to make electrostatic headphones, and live with my T70's until I have a working pair of 'stats and an amp to drive them.

Re iterations, I believe this is the most recent post clarifying the T1 differences, credits to @thatonenoob

Thanks very much for the link.

Now I understand.

First and main retuning happened somewhere close to the 4000 mark.
If you buy a sn. +10.000 Tesla T1 you'll surely get a "late" one.
Early one was flatter and brighter, and some of these have terrible channel matching.

In my view, there's not enough information to say if there were other 'official' retunings or if it's just unit to unit variation playing games with us.
My late T1.1 (sn.16.8xx) has kind of AKG mids, with slightly raised 2kHz, while you might find some late T1.1 with flatter/more recessed upper midrange (more along the lines of DT880) so there's still some uncertainty out there for those willing to pick a T1.

How do you find the T1 compares to the others and which do you prefer?

Sorry for the late reply, drank a little too much with some friends after they finished work.

The T1 is a great all around headphone, does classical, acoustic jazz and blues really well.  Also decent with rock, EDM, R&B, pop.

HD-800 & SR-009 are better than the T1 for classical but about the same for jazz and blues, just a preference thing here.  Awhile back another friend and I were doing some comparisons with his Hugo and we both liked the HD-800 with well recorded music without much vocals, the wide sound stage of the HD-800 could sometimes make vocals sound off.  The HE-560 did vocals best to both of us with the T1 not far behind.  The RS2e does rock and jazz really well due to the very detailed and smooth highs and mids but does lack some bass for R&B and EDM that need the bass punch.  The HD-700 can be really good with the right amp, just like the HD-800 and T1 the choice of amp is important.  Its a pretty good all around headphone and at the current price a steal IMO.

I really don't have a preference for one headphone or another since they all have their own signature and its nice to hear a song on different headphones, keeps things interesting.

Thanks for this.  I had to figure that since they were hard-wired, and that Beyerdynamic knew the T1 would take a hit for that fact, that they likely didn't cheap out given they were trying to go up against the 800s, etc.

You confirmed my intuition!  :)

Beyer T1.2 isn't hardwired (sorry if I missed something).  However, I find my T1.1 > HD800, K812 (aka the trio from the "german school of tuning").  It's just very nicely balanced imo.

I brought my T1's to a mini audio meet I had with some friends and they loved them! If I remember right, one commented how they liked the bass and how the treble was detailed and clear.

Now I wonder if i dragged them into this wallet-draining journey of despair and audio bliss.
