The Official Beyerdynamic T1 Impressions and Discussion Thread

Maybe you know the reason of the problem, it is driver itself or some internals design? Seller says that they were in Beyer service for driver replacement, drivers definitely should be recent one i think, so would this mean that signature will be "fixed", also it is interesting do beyer do some serious after service test (as i know no freq. response graph was included after repair).

T1 is not a cheap buy, so i try to figure it out as much as possible...

I guess there was a problem with the drivers but I'm just guessing.

Not sure if I'm following you.
Are you planning to buy a second hand T1 that was sent to Beyer service for driver replacement?

If that's the case, were both drivers replaced?

Yep, exactly, second hand T1 (~1900 SN) was in Beyer service last year and both drivers were replaced, i don't know what exactly was wrong with them. And as i want to replace my T90 i just don't want that early versions harshness. So interesting what "signature" i should get in this situation.

Well, yeah...
Really hard to tell without guessing.
Is the price very convenient?

Keep in mind that the T1 is still a bright headphone.
Do you like your T90s?

I think price is interesting :) But still it's a lot of money i wouldn't like to loose...

T90 get better with Schiit Vali 2, waiting for new tube as they say stock one is not really good one.

But still i feel that something is missing from T90, and in T90 thread one guy said that T1 is superior in base and it is smoother, i feel that this is what i would like :)

That might have been me, and I stand my that assessment. I even put DT 770 pads on the T1, and to my ears, they sound a little warmer.  YMMV. Note that the base is better, but not necessarily boomer. Mostly, to me, the upper end is way more refined.

Mine are serial 2584 and they seem to be fine. If the ones you are looking to get have replaced drivers, then I think you are OK. I would say the price should be between $450-$550.

If there were changes to the driver I think they won't have old drivers laying around just for repairing 'old' T1s  So if there was a revision (I don't think so, maybe just better tolerance control and driver matching) you'd get a pair of newer drivers anyway.

To me the difference between T90 and T1 is more refinement in the treble with the latter. That and cleaner bass, if a bit less of it. Overall I've found it to be easier to listen to, less hot (in the sense of treble hottness).

Well, Beyer's cable would be great but price is high.

Maybe these plugs are ok? https://store.acousticom.com/4-conductor-trrs-plug-small

or AH-D600 cable? http://www.ebay.pl/itm/Replacement-Audio-upgrade-Cable-For-Denon-AH-D600-D7100-Velodyne-vTrue-Headphone-/281494949395?var=&hash=item418a680e13:m:mkZroKQ-1gPQ9iNiM1Xm-lA

After 3 1/2 years on my bald head the headband padding on my T1 was ready to be replaced.  The official replacement was hard to find (the Norway beyer site had it for $50+) and there were no instructions on how to actually do it?

Got an aftermarket replacement from Amazon.ca for $20: http://www.amazon.ca/Replacement-Leatherette-Universal-Sennheiser-Beyerdynamic/dp/B00862522A

Took a minute to remove the old leather and padding.  I left the padding on the top of the headband as it was perfectly fine.  Then another minute to snap the new one into place.  96% perfect fit and comfortable.

Anyone have any experience with the T1 and the K712? Does the T1(Gen1) have a soundstage similar to the K712?
I currently have the K712s and the T90's, and while I enjoy both, I do wish the T90 had a bigger soundstage.

T1 v1 has better soundstage than K702

T1 is more focused, clearer and airier, but also different.
The AKGs tend to project small and slightly diffuse objects and this can boost the sense of distance.
The T1 is more transparent overall.

K702 is supposed to have better soundstge than K712 so:
T1 v1 > K702 > K712

If you don't mind me asking how much did that run you? It looks like thats how the headphones came straight from the factory.

I know you all might hate me, but I might jump the T1 ship as they aren't my favorite headphone anymore. Don't take this the wrong way, they are still one of my favorites, but lately the HD800 has just stolen me away from them.

Now I might upgrade eventually to the second gen. T1, but I'd have to hear them first to make sure they are to my liking. Heck, I might just pick up some of the memory foam ear pads for my T1 and hope it gives a similar signature.

Oh and my T1 headband finally failed me. Thing just fell apart. I guess it really is time to get these repaired.

Agreed really, ever since I got the HD800s I barely use the T1s. I don't think it's worth keeping both either (even though I am).
