wouldn't be awesome if there was an artisan on HeadFi who made custom ear pads for the dozen or so popular headsets that maximized the sound and comfort at a reasonable rate?  Providing both a leather and suede type option which aims to compensate out the most voiced sound issues for each phone.  Perhaps even being able to further customize for each individual to emphasize certain things similar to how artisans are making headphone cables.

Seems a roll of quality leather and suede and a few blocks of memory foam (and a sewing machine) is all that is needed and some of these earpads are costing up to $80 should be a good chunk of profit in there once you have the patterns figured out.

And provide measurements on how each headphone performs with specific pads. I'd love to see that idea come to life!

If you jump over to the HE560 thread you will see what happens when this custom ear pad madness strikes. In their case even the manufacturer caught the bug and started issuing various revisions. Jerg is a mod specialist and I would not be surprised if he had enough requests that he would take a look at the T1. I am happy with my T1 and don't see the need for this I always considered it the manufacturers job to tune their product especially at these price points.

While one may not enjoy the specific voicing of a headphone (and therefore want to modify it), I consider the pads to be an integral part of the sound signature and therefore specifically chosen by the manufacturer. If I don't like it I'll try another headphone...

At least pads *do* have the ability to change the sound signature

I'm thinking about putting the T1 drivers in the closed back dt 770 housing (I need closed back for my listening experience as I am mostly in places like public libraries), but I'm not sure that this cube foam mod will be enough to dampen it in this context.

The cube mod will help with treble, but I'm not sure how you'll go with getting air and space from the sound. When I tried various mods, anything that reduced the air flow around the driver (i.e. like a closed cup) created a thick, warm sound without much sense of space. It wasn't a bad sound, but lacked the T1's usual magic.

you know i just realized how u2's latest album actually steals it's style from jane's addiction - the great escape artist. the similarities are uncanny.

Ahh, Love Over Gold - possibly my favorite DS CD.  Never had the pleasure of listening to it with a TOTL 'phone like the T1 though.

I've tried the Audeze pads. While in fact the angling by the pads isn't a problem by itself, the front part of the pads seem to occlude part of the drivers, and the overall sound is quite boomy and less spacious.

they aren't too bad actually, nothing that cannot be fixed with a slight cut in the bass on an eq.  i am about to try the foam mod here shortly.  the audeze pads are quite a bit more comfortable though.

Heard the 90th Anniversary version with Cardas Clear Light cable, even new, there is a roundness and air that outdo the original version at a premium of 25% more to the cost, the cups are black and each numbered with a total of only 600 units only, a must for the dead hard fans
