rjerwa, here's another tip I learned (thanks to forum member Snoopy112).

Snoopy112 has taken the time to provide an alternate version of the same firmware. I decided to give it a try because I didn't like the imposed limitation of having a maximum cap of 20,000 songs.. With Snoopy112's version, you can add up to 65,000 songs. He has also removed what he considers unnecessary files. Personally, I also like the alternate layout version as well. Here's a link to his 3.1 version. If you scroll down about 75%, you'll see his posting. You can also click the "spoiler" link on his posting and view all his custom changes. Personally, I really like his version much better.

When I stepped off the ledge to go more current, I had no earthly idea the depth of this chasm! Whole new world. So work week is on and hot as a toaster lately.... I will be back after this shortly though.
And again thank you ChuckW, Snoopy’s version looks to be the ticket.

I've been using this player for about six months. It sounds so great, but unfortunately not the software. I'm planning to sell this player if next update wont fix the random reboot and hangs. Come on, 3 updates and still no fix. Last time it hangs, I force reboot the player and the settings completely reset itself and i entered language selection screen again as like first turn on.

What is the R3 firmware version of this problem?

All my songs are gone. Had anyone experienced this before and know a good way to recover the library?

If you don't upgrade media library yet, you can copy data/usrlocal_media.db file via adb with whole information about your library and path to files. You can check which files were on SD card earlier.
Apps that I've used to restore files are quite similar with differences in GUI, but you can try: Android Data Recovery, EasyUS, TogetherShare Data Recovery and so on...

unfortunately, I have updated the media library. I have also tried the data recovery tools you mentioned. No luck. Sadly, I don't have a back up of my 100gb lossless library. Time to move on to the Tidal route.

What the name of your SD card? Now I have more than 100Gb backup on my local machine to prevent losing my files.

Things to know about R3 firmware:
1. Each numbered version comes in two flavors, only one of which will install on your R3. It used to represent a market division between China and ROTW but it's been mixed up since then such that we just call it the "Bar" version and the "Slash" version:
versions.jpg

Go to "About R3" on your device and check the little divider between available and total storage to see whether you have a Slash or Bar version R3.

My OneDrive repository of official firmware, for both versions:
https://1drv.ms/f/s!AtuiwfIBRYFEga55nagqqGZVWpGbFA

The firmware you can currently download on store.hiby.com is only for the Bar version, but they should probably update that soon to include both versions.

2. Some old firmware versions are not exactly forward-compatible with others, in that, e.g. if you have updated to 3.2 or 3.3, it is a bit risky to downgrade to 3.1 or below. You may run into a bootloop. The chances of this can be reduced by performing a factory reset before downgrading. If you do run into a bootloop, just copy your (Bar/Slash) version of the latest firmware onto the card for the R3 outside of any folders, and press Vol+ and Power buttons together to go directly to firmware update via recovery.

Hope that helps,
Joe
