What are they?

Nice pic of your AK100 by the way. I keep hovering over the AK120 buy button. I can get one for $1499 CAD right now.

@ x RELICK x check out ebay. I got a used one (still in box with 64g card) from a guy that wanted to get an Ak240. Got it for $545. Also picked up a "photo shoot demo" AK120 for $590.00 on Amazon, and a never used Hifiman HM802 for $465.00. Just be patient.

Good tips. I wish Amazon.ca had deals like that! Never happens up here....... ever.

There's actually 4 listings on Amazon.ca right now. One for $1700 (msrp), one for $2200, one for $3600, and one for $4100. Do they think Canadians are idiots!! Amazon Canada is one of the most expensive placeS to buy certain products. When I saw it for $1400 CAD elsewhere I was genuinely excited.

  Question of the day:

Where do you folks get your music?

Over the past couple of years, since USPS increased the price of Intl. shipping, I find I purchase fewer and few cds. It's nearly impossible to justfy the shipping charges on a couple of discs, so now I look to downloads. Generally I've been against digital ownership, I like to have a physical product. But now, since most places offer a lossless product, along with PDFs, I find no reason not to go that route. Streaming really isn't on the radar for me - most services are geo-locked, and according to the CEO of Bell Communications, if you use a VPN to access streaming sites, you're stealing

(shows how out of touch the tele-coms are here in Canada)

So, what's the verdict, does anybody still buy CDs?

I buy used on Amazon, for the most part, and a couple of times a year head to "Recordland" in Calgary to see what they have going on (usually 2-5 years ago's one-hit-wonders, but sometimes some quality arises). Also not into streaming, and like the experience of listening and reading the booklet at the same time.

I frequent a local used CD shop, 'Crazy Bob's'. They have a HUGE selection!!

I'm with you on streaming here in Canada.

You'll have to take me next time I'm in Van.

You'd love it. 'Crazy' doesn't quite describe it. Lots of tie dye shirts and 70's random nostalgia all over the place, and oodles of vinyl. Great selection of CDs too.... Hundreds.

Oops... were you looking Mk.II?

Haku, AK120ii.

Guys, I'm not dying for one and I really should demo one first. I was just saying that my interest is in this DAP as my IEM were apparently tuned for it and it has the balanced cable to go with it. Got excited when I saw the price $300 lower than elsewhere brand new in Canada. That's rare.

Thanks for the recommendations though.

If I get CDs, I rip lossless and lossy versions and archive the cd on my shelf to collect dust...

Yeah, me too. Or at least that's how I used to do it. Do people still use EAC these days? Gotta love those bit-for-bit perfect copies. And spending hours sometimes trying to rip a single CD.

Hey Labsters, wondering if any of you in N.America want to try on the ESS RLM-713. Have the go ahead to do an informal tour. Let me know if you're interested and we'll set up a circuit. Follow-up review would be nice, or at least impressions on the discussion thread. Will be starting things off with Nikolaus (will have it off to him tomorrow probably). If you're curious, check out my review (link in sig).

After reading your review, these look like an interesting listen, Eric. Thanks for setting this up!

I always used to hit Recordland when I lived in Calgary. You're right that their "regular" inventory isn't all that great, but I have found some hidden gems. Never had to nerve to venture in to vinyl room

I remember checking out a big used store last time I was in Van. I think it was on Granville, bout a block from Robson
