I have been trying to get one of my closest friends into audio and she has finally relented. I want to get her a pair of in ears with the wire down that she can use at work while working. I haven't been keeping up with the chinese headphone thread as I spend most of my time here with the rest of the cool kids ;)
 
 
I am not sure what to recommend her. I was primarily thinking of going with something that is cable down as this will be her first good headphone and I don't know how she will like cable going up. Any suggestions would be welcome, bonus points if its on amazon. She's in the states so she will be buying it there.

There are some new kids on the block under/around 30USD, like VJJB V1 and Pistons 3. But no reviews yet (as far as I know). You may give them a shot. For the cheap and safe choice with mic Sony MH1C is a solid choice for the entry level (even more). The cable sucks a little though...

How long can she wait before getting them (ie - an interim pair while she waits for something to be delivered)?
 
I'll post the link shortly - need to actually post the review first.  These are the real deal.  Review will take about half an hour to edit pics and format.  Kickstarter campaign will have these debuting at £20.00/ $30.00 USD

Well the Pistons are quite peaky in treble also. But they do have mic. How about the Pistons 3.0? But it would be somewhat a blind purchase as they're new to the market.

Oh haven't heard of the VJJb yet sounds interesting. I wanted to hold off on recommending the new pistons before seeing more reviews :) thank you for the suggestions! Will definitely look into those.

She is a pretty patient person so she wont mind waiting, as long as its not too long :) She isn't in a rush to get them asap. Whats funny is two of her closest friends are headphone junkes, myself and one other person. I am not familiar with her other friend and was excited to find out that her friend was a headphone fan as well. I was like ASK HER WHAT SHE HAS NAOOO GET TO DA CHOPPAA

Oh I wasn't sure of that. I haven't heard them myself and am curious to see how the new piston fares :D

I don't want to scare her off right away so something like 60 USD or under. Or maybe a bit more, depends on how good it is. I would be able to get her to bite for a really killer one and she is def interested to see why two of her closest friends are such headphone geeks ;) Hook her as you say :P

First of all I am actually touched by the helpfulness of all the labsters, much appreciated folks! And for the tenore, as good as they are, I don't want her to have to deal with typical tenore syndrome. Unless they have worked out all the QC problems? They would be a fantastic choice otherwise.

Although I like the sound of Tenore I wouldn' t advise it to a friend because of the risk of TTS. TTS is a real dealbreaker.
