Yea, no problem, i am listening to RHCP at 90% on my ipad, not a hint of distortion just bass, drums and guitars flying every where :D

Dude, sorry but you're going to mess up your hearing, I'm 14, and on my PC I listen to mine at around 20-30%

You know who you could PM is Malveax. He uses the E10. You could ask him if he has compared them side by side.

Not that curious. Already have the E17. Too late to switch

Don't transplant, just dampen and apply HM5 pads :D

There's so much to try on stock. Filter the driver vents with cotton(filter one, two or fully block em'), dampening the cups with different combination of materials, double the magnetic strength by chaining another magnet behind the driver, etc.

Yeah tried that on the S400. Wasnt as good compared to the S500. I prefer the stock pads + HM5 for the 400s.
With velours they seem to lose too much volume. I had to boost up the volume and seemed like some details were lost.

Really like your Upside Down Cats !

I will try HM5 pads. But what I am getting from slightly modified HA-M750s ( much better bass and soundstage than HA-S500 with "anything but HM5 pads") hints at the fact transplanting is unavoidable. HA-M750 modified can convience you almost to real thing when watching a well recorded movie as far as bass extension and spatial reproduction is concerned - HA-S500 does not come even close.

OK, are you sure they won't get damaged? (Better safe than sorry)
EDIT: Does the song need to be in FLAC, or will 320 MP3 be fine? (I have a 320 MP3 album where the bass hits HARD, and my FLACs are like Noisia)

Honestly, I burn mine in with bassdrive at 100% volume. The S500s don't break a sweat.

After getting my HM5 pads last week I decided I no longer needed my Audio Technica ATH-W1000X modded headphones.....freed up lots of cash, the improved sound of the S500 + velours + HM5 pads were too much for the W1000X, no longer competition!  Sold the W1000X an hour after posting them for sale!

How loud do I blast these while burning them in?
EDIT: other cans are Razer Carcharias (NO soundstage whatsoever), and the monoprice 8320's, I used to have the AKG K702 before I sold them to fund my portable rig (4 gig white Clip+ rockboxed, 32 gig microSD, JVC HA-S500 (duh), second pair of Monoprice 8320's (lost my first), and a pack of Comply T400's, as well as $35 extra)

My mum turned the volume up on my laptop to 198% through VLC media player and the sound was crackling and distorting/clipping really bad. My S500's were exposed to this torture for around 5 minutes yet they survived with no adverse affects!

These drivers are 20x stronger than steel remember so they can easily take a beating

hi guys, great thread and great reviews. I am going through the thread but there are just too many pages for me to follow and someone who has been here from the start can hopefully shed some light on my confusion.

So I read up to the point where the DSNUTS said HD25 velours added a lot more comfort, but then I skipped ahead and now I keep seeing ATH pleathers and I have no idea how that started. Doc had a great post comparing ATH pleather to HD25 pleathers, but what happened to the velours? Also I noticed in one of the later posts by Dsnuts around page ~166 he's using ATH pleathers, when did he switch from velours and why?

Another confusion: is the ATH ESW9 pads the same as the ATH-SJ5 pads? (i.e. ATH pleathers)

where in this thread the HD25 velours became less desirable and ATH pleather became more desirable? which is more comfortable as that is the deciding factor for me. Thanks in advance
